I was told by an annodizer he couldn't acid wash a dust finish is this true ? He said the parts would have to be polished first then acid washed ? Is he blowing smoke up my rear and trying to get more money or is there any truth to this ?

I've seen an acid wash phantom or two. So yes, he is most likely blowing smoke up your ***. Or he's either not a skilled enough anodizer and doesn't know what he is doing. In that case I would look into using someone else.

Smoke up ***. You can do almost every special effect on any finish.

Yep he is just wrong.

Gloss does help you see the details in the acid wash sometimes though.
