Good shoes for running?

What are the best running shoes? I need some new ones and want to get some feedback.

Depends on how you run. What distance is typical for you? Terrain? Foot shape?

I recommend finding a running shop and letting them fit you.

That said, I run in Vibrams. Prior to that, it was Nike Free Runs. Feet will be sore as **** for the first month, then everything feels so much better.

Agreed! Go to your local running store and they can tell you what type of foot you have and which shoe would best fit your needs.

A good running store will also keep you from buying that stupid Nike bull****.

Love my VFF's. Other minimalist shoes are good too. Flat (no stacked heel) and flexible is ideal but they do require an acclimation period that takes a while in order to prevent injury.

www.birthdayshoes.com is an excellent source for mostly VFF's but they review all kinds of minimalist footwear. I used to hate running then I got my Vibrams and now I average 12 miles a week on trails. If you do look into VFF's don't go too crazy too fast. I did that and got bad tendonitis in both feet.

I swear by my Adidas Climacool running shoes. They're minimalist, but I'm flat footed. ^ These guys have the right idea.

Lots of people have great luck with minimalist shoes and flat feet.

Pretty much anything by Reebok and Nike are only for looking cool, even if they say "run" on the box. I can't speak to which shoes to actually get but I know most runners use Asics, Brooks, and New Balance. I prefer minimalist shoes, ie a very thin and flexible sole and a lightweight upper. I prefer this because carrying more weight than I should they allowed me to develop a proper mid-foot strike and have significantly less knee pain and become far more active than before. For those types of shoes the New Balance Minimus Zero series and Vivobarefoots are what I would look at. I wear Vivo's a great deal as they also make a minimalist dress shoe. Really kick ***.

Other benefits of these types of shoes? In my lifting days, hopefully soon to return, there were some things I did barefoot. Most gyms don't allow it but you can get away with it with minimalist shoes.

I like to run with Asics or saucony's when I'm on a track or indoors but when I'm outside on a trail or just the streets I wear vibram five finger's but with the minimalist shoes it takes a week or so to get used to the way they feel...

It takes a week to get used to the feel and about 2-3 months before full use for exercise should be done. Lots of muscles not used or underused in "normal" stacked heel shoes.
