So I really want to buy an automag, but I am curious how good are they? I started playing paintball back in1992-1995 and owned a KODIAK pump, and a Tippman Prolite. I played a few local tournaments durning that time and the automags were the king in my area and I wanted one but was never able to purchase one. I have shot a variety of guns over the last few years and currently play more speedball and own an Ego 09, and Geo 2.1.
So my question is how do they compare to other guns, ie A-5, Etek, 68, Prolite, auto cocker ect.... I have never shot one before. I have read a lot of good things about them and the seem like they are about as close as you can get to a electronic marker.

In regards to a mech-gun, I don't think you can do much better than a well-tuned 'mag. I keep one specifically just for when I go out in the woods and don't need the insane firepower of modern tournament guns. It's light, consistent, reliable and surprisingly quiet.

Can't beat it for running around the woods.

I will tell you one thing for sure without getting any logical haters they are a whole lot better than any tippmans that are currently out. And you can make them better to equivelent to any other tourney guns out there. But you can buy them stock that run on C02 with a level 7 and a single trigger for real cheap (cheaper than a tippman) around 70 I believe and turn into a lightweight double trigger/blade gun that you feel like you personally built and you get much more connected with the time you put into it and you learn a lot.

2.look at the upgrades
3.get obsessed with everything AGD beyond the point of buying a non-mag' (it happens pretty fast)

There from the 80s and have survived so long for a reason.

From a quality standpoint, they are built to higher specifications than the best products from Planet Eclipse, DYE, Bog Long, etc. They are freaking awesome!

The only negative Automags have is their air-efficiency, it's not the greatest. But otherwise, they shoot as accurately and quickly as anything else. In fact, I've never seen another gun shoot as fast as Zak Vetter's Automag.

In mechanical guns, you will find nothing finer.

^well said and they can take out and hold out against a large amount of electrical guns and especially if you get an Emag/Xmag.

you can get them setup however you want with a wide variety of mechanical, pneumatic, and electronic options.

and a quick look through the picture thread will show you they have an even wider range of looks and setups with frames, fore grips milling etc

they have a good resale value and a great community.

I own 3 mags, an RT ULE, X Mag, and a Pneumag, have played with several Angels (great guns despite what others say about them, never had any problems with the 3 i have) Autocockers - badass guns, and various others. My opinon, all things considered, Automags are the best. 10/10 for quality and engineering genious. Super reliable with very few if any problems as long as they are well mantained (that goes for most guns). One of the things I love most about them, uniqueness. Its very rare I see anyone these days playing with them, I always get comments on the field. I would recommend an Automag to any new begginner, and also to veterans who are looking for something a little cooler than the rest, that can easily hold their own to any modern day paintball gun.
