oh and FYI, you're probably going to laugh a lot, so try and do it when the TI isn't around...I got in so much trouble at basic because I couldn't contain my laughter.

Just wondering what are some of your suggestions for what to take. My recruiter says he likes to tell you to take the bare minimum, an idea I like, but just wanted to get some opinions on his list and any other suggestions.
- 2-3 changes of clothes (including socks, underwear, etc)
- Cheap flip flops (shower shoes)
- Hygiene items (toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, shaving cream, deodorant, etc) (all travel size of 3oz or less b/c we'll be flying)
- Drivers license
- SSC
- Glasses
- Promissary Note (special addition to my list since I'm going with the student loan repayment program)
- Cell phone and charger
|
-yes thats good. Dont bring underwear. Youll get issued some
-youll get issued shower shoes or the chance to buy some when you get there
-NO electric razors. Absolutely NONE.
-Bring your phone and charger, but you wont get to use it. We had to buy calling cards and use the payphones.

Tip: Don't make yourself noticed in any way, shape, or form. Up until my last day, my TI didn't even know my name even being the acting dorm cheif for retreat.

All I packed are plain, not bright colored t-shirts. Dark grey, dark blue, dark green. Nothing to stand out. Running shoes, simple jeans, simple watch.

I think he is saying, when given the chance, do not volunteer for ****. Don't **** up, but dont go out of your way to exceed at anything. I was doing good at this until the 4th or 5th week when my TI somehow found out I was really good at rolling tshirts.
Anyway. Keep it on the DL. Life will be much better.

I wonder how my promotion is going to work since I'll be at work on midnight. I really don't want to say the oath and I'll be in ABUs so a simple changing of the blouses is more what I'm hoping for and assuming I can make it work I'd like to grill some steaks for the guys in my squadron working nights and day shift be damned. but the folks on nights that aren't in my squadron won't be getting any.

there's probably 20 guys at most from my squadron that work nights with me so buying some delicious cuts of beef won't break the bank. the hard part for me is gonna be grilling without drinking a beer at the same time. Otherwise there's nothing to do while you wait to turn the meat.

Unless its a promotion ceremony, then changing of the blouses should do fine.

NEP8? You talking about your auto-promotion? Please just do what everyone else does and show up to work with the new rank. Even if that means walking out of your office at 11:59 and walking back in.
I will be grilling out with friends and then showing up to work. Which reminds me, I should probably get some uniforms fixed...

Regular pilot weighing in - The dudes are right to not want to fly the F-22. We're trained to identify hypoxic symptoms with ourselves and others. They're getting so impaired so quickly they cannot. That's pretty scary stuff. So is it worth it to place them in such a risky spot for training? Nope. Is it worth it to fix the F-22? Yes. That thing is a phenomenal platform and everyone knows it. But it should not be the entire cadre out there, we don't need to kill off a bunch of young, inexperienced single seat guys to figure this out.

Hypoxia is pretty wicked. My symptoms sucked.
Speaking of promotion, we got a brand new butter bar in my squadron who is putting on 1st Lt next week.

Chamber - My neighbor got incredibly beligerent. He was last to get on the hose, I was second to last. Might have been too busy egging him on to pay attention to my symptoms.
1Lt (Sel) - He took the time to even announce it? It's pretty arbitrary.

My thoughts, and reactions.
"Neighbor getting on the hose?"
"Oh..."
"Wait, you've had a rapid d?"
Remembers airframe...

Naw, but we did have a window destroy itself the other day. Managed to remain pressurized, so no big deal.
