brand new dm12 tuning help

finally got to used my dm12. im going from a naughty dog shocker with many upgrades to this. one of the reason why i got the dm12 was because it was suppose to be smooth as butter. well, either i dont know the definition of smooth or mine is too new or stocked settings because there is a definite kick to it. it was consistent over the chrono from what i could remembered. 285 +- 3 fps. someone told me to lower the dwell and other says to let it break in. so ive been told to air it up and just dry fire it on full auto. well, for dwell. i have no clue what to set it at. so my question here is...does it get smoother as it breaks in? (just leave it be and just keep shooting) or do i need to tune it to make it smoother ( how do i tune it?). i was looking at a guy shooting his NT and he was shooting ROPES! with no movement to the gun.

Yes breaking it in usually helps. A lot of my DMs start to shoot a lot better after a few cases. After breaking it in you can lower the LPR pressure a little bit which will lower the kick you feel.

One way to tune is to:
1. Turn the LPR all the way in/down
2. Dry fire the marker till the bolt doesn't return
3. Turn the LPR out till the bolt gets sucked back (look down the breach when doing this)
4. Do 1/4 turn from the point when the bolt got sucked in
5. Adjust HPR for field speeds

That should do it.

Whatever you do don't dry fire it on full auto.

And from a shocker that is money, the m12 won't ever be smoother but can be just as smooth. You were kinda spoiled there...

Give it 20 cases or so and tune the lpr and hpr the morning you play over a chrono. With the above posts direction.

Upping your dwell to 20 or 21 will let you drop your lpr a bit too but you will sacrifice a bit of efficiency

It will definitely break in after a few cases. I'm shooting about the same w/ +/- 3 at the chrono. Now it's very smooth. I'd say just play with it a little bit more w/ stock settings and let the orings break in.

yea brother i just got my new DM12 a few days ago and ive only put about one case thru it so far.....it will take some time for the gun to get broke in but the more paint u put thru it the smoother it will get... im pretty much just gunna shot it as is for roughy 5 or 6 cases just lubeing it after each time i play...once i get that many cases thru it if it needs any tinkering then i might mess with it...right now it seems to shoot fine.... 293,294,293,297 over the chrono the first four shots right out the box....just give the gun time to break in and it will get better and better each time u play with it...

You can tune a DM right out of box, reason most of us recommend that you wait about 10-15 cases, is to allow the LPR and HPR Piston to imbed itself into the Reg Seat.

In doing this allows for your DM to have more consistent shots over the chronograph. After the Reg Seat is bedded by the Piston, you can go in LPR Tune your marker for smoothness or consistency or you Dwell Tune for more efficiency.

I personally tune every DM out of the box I've had, reason being that I treat it like a motorcycle or car, you need to run it hard for everything to set itself in place. Just like Piston Rings and Valves in a car or motorcycle need to be ran hard to be seated correctly.

Now take a DM or any marker you set all desired tuning preferences, if you know how to tune a marker correctly and let the marker break-into the desired settings that you have created, which to me has always done wonders with consistency and smoothness.

If you take a brand new DM 12 and throw in a brand new BW bolt, do you need to change any of the stock settings? Or can I just take the new gun out of the box, put the new bolt in and play?

Only real benefit from the bwing bolt will be the fact that you can get the lpr lower, if you don't change the lpr it will perform roughly the exact same. But as for my dms I always up the dwell to 21 and drop the lpr and low as you can without fsdo. My dm6 right now is at 1/2 turn out on the lpr without any issues. This is literally one of the if not the smoothest gun I have shot and silent.

Also this is probably not recommended by some people but I did this to my dm6 which helps break in the orings a lot faster....
Just get some metal polish (cheap stuff i spent 4$ on a bottle) rub in on your bolt orings and then hand cycle the bolt back and forth for several minutes, after this time you will see the black from the orings being torn off and it will also "polish" your orings. BUT BE SURE TO CLEAN OFF THE ORINGS THROUGHOLY WITH SOAP AND WATER BC IT WILL DESTROY YOUR SOLENOID IF IT GETS IN IT! Hope this helps!

Right, but what if I just put the BW bolt in without adjusting my LPR? Will this be ok? Put 10-15 cases through it and then adjust stuff?

Try 21 dwell 3 1/2 turns out on the LPR should be alot smoother,

As far as your question, you can put a bw bolt in and just shoot it, but i reccomend you adjust it a little bit

how does the sleeve separate from the top hat on the bw bolt? I just got this thing - and am trying to do so, but it's not sliding off and it doesn't rotate.
