Had a good time today, although I'm pretty sure blue(yellow, whatever) ended up loosing. I left at that 30 minute break before the final battle.

What kills me is that I saw team Gotkills? playing speedball against each other for a couple games after half time instead of supporting their red team. Funny cuz that was the only time I ever saw them play speedball.

Hey everyone. So that was quite a game to watch develop yesterday. Before I get into the play-by-play, I want to thank Battle Creek for hosting the game, our generals for stepping up (one on very short notice), and all the players and teams that came out for the big game.
As anyone who plays knows, the format was big game flag control with five flags. The wrinkle was that only two were active at any given time, which caused the focal points to switch around every 20 minutes. The game was played in two halves of two hours each, with flag check every twenty minutes for a total of twelve opportunities to control a flag in each half, plus a half-hour final battle with all five flags active simultaneously and scored at the end.
The morning started off extremely even. Three of the first four segments were split between the red and yellow teams, one flag each. Importantly, the first segment went 1-0 for yellow, since the back-field flag all the way at the top of the hill stayed neutral (there were reports of red players walking past it but not actually flipping it to their color).
Consequently, red was down by 1 for most of the morning, but came back strong and took all four of the final flags, to go into the lunch break up by three, 7 flags to 4.
The second half was even more evenly matched. Fighting from opposite sides now, yellow took both flags in the first twenty minutes, but split the next set, and red took both in the third afternoon segment. The final three segments of the second half were split, so going into the final battle, red had kept their three flag lead, and was up 13 to 10.
But, with five flags up for grabs, the final battle could still decide things. Red jumped out to an early advantage, controlling three of the five flags at half-way mark, fifteen minutes in. But by five minutes to go, two of those flags had flipped to yellow (including flag number 1, right in front of the castle, in what was a fairly epic push down through Junkyard onto the castle walls).
And that was how the final battle ended: four flags for yellow, one for red. Final score: 14 to 14, because of the missed flag in the very first twenty minutes of the game.
So the generals and I put our heads together, and it was agreed that a single five-on-five match on junkyard, hopperball with rental markers, would decide the winner. The generals picked their five players, and we were off.
Red had a better breakout from the bottom than yellow did from the top, but lost players near the fifty on both the net side and from inside the castle-side snake. Yellow was then able to move down the field and eliminate the last couple of players, earning the overall win.
So that's how the game went down. Congrats to yellow on their win, and to both teams on their hard-fought and well-played game. Thanks again to everyone that came out to play.
