Help-- Clone VX breaking paint

I am having trouble with my Clone VX breaking paint. I was shooting all star with .691 shift kit insert. I'm getting a break about every other hopper (a pinokio).

There have been many discussions about people using softer timmy detents instead of the green VX detents. BUT, it was my understanding that the problem with the clone detents may have been addressed by the new VX green detents. Is that correct, or are the timmy detents even softer (and prevent breaks better than the VX detents?

Every time I start getting breaks, I switch to my geo 2.1 (.689 barrel with same pinoio hopper) and breaks go away.

Also, could the dwell or other settings help? What dwell or other setting would be optimal for reducing breaks?

One more thing, I just (got the clone vx back from a Macdev tune-up at their Florida shop, so the gun is most likely set up and functioning property....that's why I think it may just be tough detents.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hopefully a Mod will be by soon to transplant this post in to the proper forum.
In the meantime, have a look here.

Set the ball settle delay to 7 ms. That should solve the problem.

If you still encounter issues after this, you should up the dwell to 14 ms.

I do use the green detents myself and i can shoot the most brittle paint without issues.

next time try throwing the geo2 barrel or any smaller barrel on and see what happens. for whatever reason that has worked for me.

what is your dwell set to?
Do you have a way to test your gladiator reg output pressure? It should be around 100-110 psi

dwell on stock settings. What dwell would be best to be easier on paint?

Don't have a way to test output on reg, but it just came back from macdev.

One break every 300+ rounds? Is that bad? I'd be happy with that!

Is it breaks in the breach were talking about here, or barrel breaks? Very different things.

Try what jinx18 said.

I usually have a small amount of paint on the bolt at the end of the day so it sounds like at least some breaks in the breach.

If you break enough paint in the barrel it will sometimes get a little on the bolt tip. If you chop it will be an absolute mess on the bolt.

Just becaus it came back from macdev does not mean it's perfect. Not bashing them, but if you want someting done right. Do it yourself.

Another place to look is the loader tension.

My Rotor operated fine on other guns, but for some reason it put excessive force on the stack in my Clone. That stack pressure was enough to fracture the shell of tourney grade paint. In turn that fracture would fail about 2" into the barrel and turn me into a Wagner powersprayer.
Reducing the drive tension solved the problem and I have not broken paint in the barrel or breech since.
And good lord did I look everywhere else first! Took me three events to figure this out.

The loader tension wore my ego out last time I played. I dropped the tension and didn't have another issue all day, however, I would say that if balls are being pushed past the detents then it may be time for new detents.

I don't think the issue is too much torque from my hopper. I use a pinokio.

I'll try to up my dwell and ball settle a little and see what happens.

Thanks for the tips.

assuming my gladiator output pressure was too high, how would I address that issue? Is it as simple as adjusting the velocity screw?

Yes, but to compensate you may need to bump your dwell up or find a better paint/barrel match. I run my droids @ 14ms vs the 12ms stock and I've noticed dramatically lower ball breakage (0-1 all day vs 1 per 1000)

All this work figuring out the problem and it was just a bad case of paint. Thanks for all the thoughts though.
