Axe Barrel Battle Royale (with cheese)

With incognito-z's awesome write up (found HERE) I got to thinking about how many barrels I've been through recently and wanted to know what other people are running.

To make things a little more thorough I was thinking of a few guidlines to judge what people think is the best barrel for their machine gun.

Looks
This one is a no brainer. Being a self-made paintball fashionista I want my gear to look good. I need a barrel that matches the anno and is aesteticlly pleasing to the eye while it's on the gun.

Sound Signature
Who doesn't like ninjas? I am and it's awesome, really. Do you want a barrel that whispers like a ghost in your ear while you sleep or barking like a hell hound ready to tear your soul to shreds?

Quality
Overall quality is huge for me. Paintball isn't cheap, I want something with nice anno, micro honed, and overall well made.

Options
Anno colors, bore sizes, various lengths, and styles.

Materials
Do you like alumminum or carbon fiber? One piece or two? A mix of both? Shorter control bore or longer?

Kits
Some people out there like to have that perfect paint to bore match every time they play. Do you prefer a barrel back kit or inserts?

One Peice
Do you prefer having just one barrel, no parts, no kits, just one to rule them all?

After ruling in all of these factors my choice is a Dye Ultralite. I personally run a dust black 14" ultralite with a .680 back. It matches the axe's lines nice enough to not stand out like a red body kit on a blue car. It has a massive amount of porting so it keeps your sound signature muffled while equalizing the pressure in your barrel. Dye makes one hell of a barrel, the anno is even: without blemishes, it's micro honed, and great quality. Dye makes enough colors, sizes, bores, and lengths to fit anyone's gun and play style.

Just my 2 cents and please, this is for you guys/gals who use aftermarket barrels or are looking into buying one. So no "the stock barrel iz teh best!!!1"

Gloss red CP one-piece .685 barrel for me. It's cheap, does it's job, and weight really isn't the biggest concern of mine compared to a carbon fiber barrel.

I've heard a lot of good things about the CP one piece but haven't had the pleasure to use one.

I totally forgot about materials, good lookin' out

Haha no problem at all, it's a nice barrel especially for the price. You can't beat it personally unless you're going for the carbon fiber barrel trying to get the lightest setup possible.

Durability > weight

At least in my mind.

For sure. I hate carbon fiber barrels. I want something that can take a core sample and write home about it. Not that I ever have

I haven't seen many barrels break in my time paintballing but they have all been carbon fiber. That's only in my little world though. If you can find some type of strength comparison it would only benefit people looking at this thread

Also, I want to here more about the Eigenbarrel. Why is it your all time favorite?

Lurker Eigenbarrel. Costs $10 more than a CP and delivers better performance. Quiet as hell, seriously... It's way quieter than my buddy's Ultralite (although i have to say the Ultralite is pretty nice), at a fraction of the price.

Yeah that's what I'm looking into next. Which is the better bore? The .679 or the .685?

I use a few different barrels depending on where I'm playing, the type of paint I'm using, or the weather. I'll do a write up for a few of my favourite barrels.

Sly Pro Merc Dual Carbon Fiber Single Barrel .689 - 14"

Looks
Very nice matte finish. The carbon weave looks very nice, as does the logo graphic. Aluminum sleeve very low profile, lasered design on it.

Sound Signature
Crazy quiet. Probably the quietest barrel I've shot. The carbon fiber barrels make a different sound then aluminum ones, it might not be quieter, but it's a lower tone to my ears. Carbon fibers make a "whoosh" kinda sound, aluminum is more of a "ping".

Quality
High quality finish, build, and inner bore. Very smooth mirror like inner finish. .689 inner bore works great as an over bore for today's paints.

Disruptive 2-Piece .678/.682 - 15"

Looks
Well designed barrel. Porting holes get larger towards end of barrel. Also the rows of porting are lower in the tip, so paint from bunkers goes around the ports instead of in your barrel. Anno'd well.

Sound Signature
Very quiet barrel. Can hardly be heard from a distance.

Quality
Nice quality. Inner bore very smooth and mirror like. Tip lengths for 13" or 15". Goes well with the axe/mini body lines.

As far as a one piece goes, Eigenbarrel is my fav. Light, quiet and of good quality.

When it comes to kits though, it gets a lot tougher to pick a favorite. As fare as stock out of the box kits go then the Freak kits are probably one of ( if not the ) the best kits ever made, especially with the stainless inserts. Although, the stainless inserts are a bit heavier than the aluminum.

Now if you want to go modified on kits, then big bore Dye back bored out to take Freak inserts is pure money.

As with any barrel discussion, and all the many that have been posted up here on the Nation. It's always opinion based and universal to all markers.

Freak Barrel Kit - 2 piece - 12-16" (I have 14")
Looks: Pretty Nice, customizable, with different fronts, backs, and colors. (I have all american front and back)

Sound Signature: pretty quiet, haven't shot it much with my lurker so probably going to get even quieter

Quality: High quality, very durable, haven't had any problems with stripping the 2 piece threads or damaging the inserts.

Bonus: matching paint, underboring, overboring all available with the inserts.

Comments: love this kit, considering buying a deadly winds CF barrel so I can continue to use the freak inserts

I just picked up a Furious barrel today, 14" dust black .685 back. I look forward to testing it out this weekend. It looks great on my axe, anno matches nicley, style looks good, and its pretty quiet when I was shooting it in my backyard.

When I shoot my thumb is over the barrel and the bell shap feels odd. I'm so used to the ridges of my ultralite digging into my thumb.

It's a .684 actually. i'm afraid to underbore too much, .679 seems way too narrow.. I'm afraid to try it! As it is, the .684 is quiet as hell if you run a low OP with an aftermarket bolt.

I'm actually looking for a .687 -.688 for summertime because I live in Toronto and it gets humid here.

Another reason I went with the freak, Windsor is just as bad as Toronto for the weather, what hits us hits you and vice versa.

But Im still contemplating the deadly winds CF that uses my freak inserts or a lurker eigen barrel.

The larger Eigenbarrel has been a win for me, I'd recommend it. For the price, you can't go wrong. I get a barrel break on occasion, but only because I shoot ****ty Spectrum or Inka paint.

Disruptive 2-piece kit

Looks
Very nice. Good anno. Some of the little DP jewels fell off but I could care less about that. I have black matte fronts with polished backs. Looks super hot. Like Teahouser said, the porting is lower than the rest of the barrel front; apparently in rain you can tape the porting and the ports will still vent.

Sound Sig.
Much quieter than the stock barrel. With an aftermarket bolt/low operating pressure it sounds really nice. My friend says it sounds like a queef compared to his Ego.

Quality
Good quality. Mirror-like finish inside. Almost seems too light when I compare it to the stock barrel. Jewels fell off but who really cares. Come with a nicely constructed semi-hard case.

Comments
I primarily use the 15" front for woodsball and the 13" for speedball although the 15" is nice for SupAir since you can push into the bunkers. Great kit although I hardly use the largest bore.

I don't have any other barrels but I might be able to borrow a sound level meter and compare the DP kit to stock.

Same. I use the .678 if you want to be a ninja and it also increases efficiency. I have never broken paint out of it and it shoots ball on ball accurate.

EDIT: I live in South Carolina and it gets incredibly humid here and I have not had any problems with it. Seriously I was skeptical with under-boring that much but I will never go back.
