But the valves look okay and the cylinder doesn't look too bad. Hard to tell with the little camera. They showed me it. So they are going to try and fish this little thing out, then throw a new plug in it, and see if it runs...
Granted if it was there fault then they are responsible and said they would fix anything obviously.
But worst case scenario its not their fault, and the head is ****ed and so is the piston. Which would pretty much mean a full rebuild which at that point I'd just put it away until the summer when I have time to fix it myself and bring out the bikes and just push through the rest of the cold weather. Use my gf's car if its too ugly outside.

Hope for good news, but if that piece of metal took out one spark plug, the car would still run. Even if it damaged a complete cylinders compression the car would still run, albeit not well.
If I understand the situation correctly, and that the engine will not run at all, you have other issues then damage to one cylinders operation. I would also be extremely concerned about what that piece of metal is. Unless someone physically put a foreign metal object into the cylinder or put it down an intake runner, then you have something inside your engine coming apart. If you were lucky enough to not destroy the engine already, I can't stress enough that you shouldn't start the car, period, until leak down is performed for valve integrity. If it doesn't end up being a part of a valve, which I think it probably will be, and it can't be determined what exactly it is, I think you need to start top end tear down until it's found.

For an E30, sight unseen, he was gunna buy a plane ticket, a hotel, spend ~500+ in gas and pick up an alcohol tab?

I had a guy drive from South Dakota all the way to Albuquerque for my WS6, based off of one picture on Craigslist. It was at this point he lost all bargaining power, he wasn't going back empty handed and I knew it.

I don't think it's really "ricey" the center cap brings the blue together with the black and it doesn't look as random now..

Some points that come to mind.
- Run a vin check/autocheck/carfax type deal. PM me the vin and ill do it for ya. Or send you the link to the site.
- Doesn't look like it has vaders.
- Does look like it has champagne interior like my door panels. In which case is a very rare BMW individual option.
- Be careful of people who do oil changes right before sales. I find they are usually trying to hide the fact that the old oil had coolant in it!
- Trim pieces are missing. And they are expensive.
- Check the RSMs from the inside of the car. You need to pull the carpeting away. You'll looking for shock tower failure or previous repairs.
- Guarantee you he doesn't know or have records for when most of this list was last done.
Thermostat, water pump, radiator, control arms/bushings, rtabs, shocks (prob original), guibo/csb, engine/tranny mounts, cooling hoses, clutch, headgasket, compression check, diff clutches, power steering fluid (5 bucks says its black.)etc.
- Check for matching body panels by vin # sticker. Front fenders and trunk have em in easy to see spots.
- also check coolant color, if its green call the guy a tool and tell him to go F himself. Only blue coolant by BMW or any other coolant formulated to not have the contaminates in it that cause electrosys should be used on a car with an aluminum cylinder head that has electrical current running thru the motor.
- Avoid slammed cars they are usually owned by tools who care more about what other people think of them than there assets.
- Fender liners are missing! (1) They are expensive (2) Them missing means rocks and road debris will kick up onto the body. Which will cause "cuts" which will ultimately lead to rust which is car cancer. In the winter it kicks up road salt and will accelerate this rust process.
p.s. I actually like the steering wheel. Ill trade you for a stock one if you want/get the car.

Bro I want it, and $6700 is on of the cheapest e36's I've seen in my area. Second I don't have cash, like $300... I'm just browsing.

Your on the right path. On a Vdub you could pull them off. Or I suppose if your car is blue it would work.
Are you using spray paint?

haven't been on pbn in quite some time, picked up this e30, 318i.
stage 1 clutch
m3 springs
bilstein sport struts
drilled rotors, hawk hp pads
some aftermarket headers
mark d chip
4.10 LSD
****ty front tires, falken zx912 205's rear.
not sure what brand the rims are, but i get compliments on them all the time.
got in a little fender bender, found a black valance at pick n pull (surprisingly it was still on the car, usually the first thing to go on a late model e30, lady rang it up for $19.99 ) but I think the black look better, since i'm painting the hood and trunk black.
iS lip and yellow fogs should be here next week sometime, as well as the black air ducts.
Plans for the car are a s50 swap, but that's not until I get a new DD and this will be the project.
It's a fun *** car, handles like a dream, I raced a e30 325i and beat it by over a car length, first thing he said at the next light was "that's a 318? is it turbo'd?"
love the car, e30 has always been one of my favorite cars, my mom has a picture from when i was a baby and i had a red e30 vert 'power wheel' like car.
it has 223k stock motor/drivetrain, it was owned by a bmw tech before i bought it from a buddy who didn't take care of it, replaced cracked oil pan, timing chain tensioner, flushed all fluids, no audio worked, fixed that, windows didnt work, fixed that (circuit breaker switch), ****ty pic, but that's with a crappy 5mp cell camera,i'll get some new ones soon.
