My current job doesn't pay nearly enough. But I really like the people I work with. Going to be tough to leave when the time comes.

Hey ive been in the dep for 6 months now. I can leave in june with a 03xx contract or i can leave asap on security forces. Any ideas?

As an 03 you'll go on a meu as sf you will stand firewatch, unless you get fast in which case you'll go to somewhere like western europe, gbay, or bahrain.

Pick what you want, don't leave with anything that you don't want. Shipping out to boot earlier is NOT worth having the next 4-5 years of your life be horrible. I see way too many people that pick my job just because it needs bodies and are ****ing miserable their entire enlistment. Once you go to boot camp, everything from then on is final, you are owned by the UCMJ then. |

Actually you can, at any time during bootcamp, quit and they will send you home. They may tell you that you can't but my Ssgt who just got off the drill field was telling us that if they quit then you'll get sent home. Most recruits are just too scared to actually put their foot down and refuse to train. And in SOI people quit all the time, you get NJPd, 2 months restriction and an oth and they send you back to wherever you came from.

theres this kid in my bn whos been NJPd like 4 times in the last 6 months, hes wearing an ankle bracelet now, he says hes getting an OTH discharge but still getting his GI bill to go to college, i thought you have to discharge honorably to rate the GI bill/benefits?

Normally you would need an honorable discharge for chapter 33 benefits. The only exceptions are certain non service related medical discharges and hardship discharges. He can apply for benefits when he gets out but his paperwork will get denied. |
