As best I can tell, the hex-hole must have been stripped. Someone then tried to use epoxy (jbweld?) to enact a repair. Suggestions? Anyone want to take a whack at getting it out for me?

1) Obtain Dremel with thin cutting disk
2) Cut slot into it
3) Take rigid (not flexible) putty knife, cut the end down a little so it fits, and just take it out

Alternatively you could use a screwdriver but I prefer the putty knife because it'll go the whole way across and it has a handle for the job.

Wow is that ugly. I've never messed with one of those back covers, but if it is solid, you could drill a pilot hole and use a screw extractor. Probably easier to do TheImPgoD's suggestion though. Could drip some nut loosener around the edges too. Get a little graphite down in those threads with a few taps for vibration to help work it in.

Had a kid bring an imp in once like this
Took an Allen wrench a couple sizes bigger and angled off then end then tapped it in and unscrewed the cap
Worked good

I'd be happy to pay someone a bit to take a whack at it... No liability implied. I live in what is effectively a closet while my house is being remodeled. I don't really have space to unpack tools... and stuff. Any takers?

I have one like this.

I did the dremel trick. I cut a slot into it, and I use a flat screwdriver to remove it.

It looks like maybe someone tried that. Dunno. I shipped it to TIG. Maybe he'll figure it out for me. =p
