Trying to cut weight in time for Meps
So I'm looking to get back to my military shape. I've lost 89lbs from running and diet alone. I seem to have hit a wall though at my last two inches. I need to pass a tape test. Right now I'm 69 inches, 41 waist and a 16 inch neck. I need to beat this. I've been at it too long to be beaten and I can't get running or diet to lose more
I've never asked anyone who actually knew what they were doing but I need some help. I made it this far on my own. but I know I have a lot more to lose (Im a pretty wide guy in the shoulders and hips)
just to get it out of the way, I'm going to the gym every day except friday.
Monday, wednesday is chest and a 10minute run at 15 incline on treadmill
tuesday thursday has been core and legs with the same treadmill excercise.
sat and sunday I run.
I've tried bulking my neck, I've tried just the core. I stay the same. Sometimes my neck gets half an inch smaller for tape tests but it's never enough in the waist to help.
Any tips in gym or diet would be great.
I'm even open to temporary tips at this point because I'm in a time crunch now

I'm sorry, but what the hell are your exact goals? Are you trying to lose weight? Or get a bigger neck? What is "military shape"?

Sorry to assume you guys should just know.
The Body fat test is a just a measurement. The basics of it is you want a small waist, but they also measure your neck for the ratio so the bigger neck the better. or so my recruiter says.
I'm trying to be overall smaller in my waist mainly. I want to try to just forget my neck and focus on that.
My height is whats really killing me, being only 5'7''

It is what it is

Maybe neck size correlates with a persons frame type, like if someone has a wider neck it means they would naturally have a wider frame/waist.
Edit: I have no idea what im talkin about .

The military tape test is meant for really big, muscular guys with low bodyfat who weigh over their allotted weight limit.
This is determine by a SIMPLE tape test of your neck, and your "waist" (basically the fattest part of your stomach).
Too often this gets misinterpreted as a way for fat people to try to skimp by the weight standard.
I was one of those people who initially tried to use the tape test to get around the weight limit.
For a real answer, there is no way you're going to get your neck big enough, and your stomach small enough, at the same time. Again, this is for guys who are already huge, and have an extremely low bodyfat. Were talking abz, and ripped physique.
There is really no other way, short of you being a disfigured human, that you can have a stomach slim enough and a neck big enough, and still be fat. It's just phsyics, and its designed that way on purpose.
So, the long answer is, there is no shortcut. Bust your *** on cardio, keep a calorie deficit, and lose actual weight.
This is coming from somebody who had to lose 80 pounds just to get into the Army, and I've played the tape test/weight game more than you can imagine.

What branch are you going to MEPS for? Each branch handles weight differently.

Minor differences, but generally the same, especially initial entry.
Unless op has a picture showing us he's flex lewis, there really isn't going to be any way to get around getting his overall weight down to 180-185 for 5'7".

If he is going AF then they don't do tape, they do BMI. So it does depend.

Tape tests and other measurements of bodyfat aren't magical. If you aren't in great shape with a very low bodyfat, and you're over your bmi or weight limit, you're not going to be able to cheat the system.
The only males I've ever seen pass a tape test were in what I call superhero shape, lol. (of course, this all goes out the window if you're a girl, I've seen some fat *****es pass tape tests, but thats because they have completely different standards).
You're going to have to suck it up and bite the bullet and lose the weight.
Just the way it is.

I'm not going to argue. The tape test is a ***** to pass but we did the math. I have to lose two inches off my waist or 33 pounds? Can 33 pounds really only be two inches worth of fat? And I'm taking your advise as well. Ill be upping my cardio to 30 minutes after this weekend.

The old addage bro, you can't spot reduce fat.
If you do enough to work off two inches of fat around your stomach, you're also losing inches, or parts of inches, on your neck. This will throw off the whole calculation. It's practically physically impossible to "bulk" your neck (which is crazy talk in itself), and lose bodyfat like that. Your body doesn't work this way.
Sucking it up and losing 33 pounds will probably be 10 times easier. It's not as hard as it sounds. There's a few of us in here that have done some pretty impressive transformations from fat *** to fit. It's hard, but you can knock it out. And if you do it the right way (stay in this forum, read the stickies, learn about nutrition), you'll be much better off for your entire military career, instead of fighting it every six months when the pt/tape test comes around.
