I've been using the infamous bolt for a couple of weeks now with the recommended settings (short spring, dwell@3ms, ~150psi, velocity@1.5 turns out) and it's been working great, but now i've become curious about tuning it further just to see how it changes the feel of the gun.

so,
What effect would increasing/decreasing the dwell have on performance/efficiency?
Is it possible to run the psi lower than 140/150?

I like running my Axe around 120PSI, I find it's way quieter and smoother around there.

Did you have to change the position of your velocity screw or any other settings to get it down that low?

No, I leave the back cap at 1.5 turns, the dwell at around 3.5ms and the reg down at just over 120 (maybe around 125psi). You'll have to tweak it a bit depending on your own gun, because the velocity can drop off quite quickly if your dwell is too low.

Nice, thanks for the input. Do you know (about) what those settings are getting you at the chrono?

Just remember there are a few things that come into play with fine tuning. Your paint and barrel being the most important. You also want to be carefull not to get too high with the dwell (you can bring it up some) if you can't it too high it will drive the bolt harder and could cause it not to be as good with fragile paint.

You want to run the open dwell about where I state in the start up sheet, closing dwell about 3-4 ms higher then the opening dwell.

Hate to revive an thread that has slowed down, but just figured I would share my experiences today with the first time using my Boss Infamous bolt in my Mini. As soon as I put the bolt in, I followed the stickies on how to break in the springs. I dry-fired about 3000 psi from my 68/45 (field I played at only filled to 3k) then backed my back cap out 1 1/2 turns, set my pressure to 150, and my dwell to 3.0 ms (Shockwave board). First shots over the chrono were around 260 psi. I up'd my pressure to around 160 and my dwell to 3.5 and good lord... 291, 290, 289, 290, 291. I'm running a Disruptive .688 2-piece and was overboring consistently with the paint today. I was so happy with the results and my gun was crazy quiet.

What are the best settings to break in the bolt+spring? And once the bolt is broken in, what settings should use for maximum smoothness? (I still want reasonable efficiency, however.)

break in guide read the section on breaking in. It's worked like a charm for me for every bolt and spring i have ever but in my gun (stock bolt and springs, TechT bolt and 3 TechT springs, now the Infamous bolt and shortest spring). Although Boss may have some insider tips for us

My break in advise is always the same. Go to your local field by some paint and go play. Just check your velocity during the day, as things break in it may increase a little.

Awesome bolt Boss!!! I used your "Infamous" bolt for the first time last week at the "Giant Big Game" at Splat Tag in Hudson,WI. Your bolt was recommended by a teammate and so far I am more than satisfied with the quality of your bolt and quickness of delivery. I absolutely love the new sound signature it gives my Axe!

Quick question:

If you set up your axe to run for the most fragile paint. Longest spring, 10ms dwell, what kind of effeciency can you expect?

I know it will vary per marker but could you give us a ball park figure?

Thanks,

Tim
