So there's a game currently being made that seems very promising. A lot of people complain that Diablo 3 isn't "dark" enough...Well this game is DARK.
Path of Exile is a free online-only action role-playing game set in the dark fantasy world of Wraeclast. It is currently under development by Grinding Gear Games in New Zealand. New players are being added continuously to the Closed Beta Test.
There are currently five classes to choose from in the game...
One thing thats unique about this game is it's MASSIVE passive skill tree. There are hundreds of skills to choose from on this tree..You literally scroll around on it, it's so huge. Here's a link to a website view of it:
I played the beta this weekend. For the most part I really enjoyed it. The skill tree (skill forest lol) is seriously awesome. Making potions into an autofilling piece of gear with stats is a great evolution of old potion systems. I also enjoyed skills being tied to gems that level up, sort of like materia in FF7.
The only thing I could really complain about if the feel of the game. It just seems a little slow overall. The animations take too long and the move speed on everything is slow. That said, this complaint could be totally null and void with +movespeed +attackspeed +castspeed from that HUGE skill tree and gear from past act 1.
Got an email today saying if you buy one of their micro transactions (cheapest is $10) you get automatic closed beta access. Otherwise they are continuing to give out random access codes to members and Open Beta is slated for June.
I only got to play for like 30 minutes this weekend...I wish I knew about it sooner...I'm really looking hard for a beta key...or praying I'm randomly selected to join.
I can't stop watching that templar trailer...It's very well done...The voice acting is superb as well.
to bad the templar class is limited to NPCs in diablo 3...in fact i'm really disapointed in the the amount of classes and types. I'm sure they will add more with expansions but until then the demon hunter and barb are my favorites.

Been playing a couple days now. Level 24 I think. This game is actually really god damn awesome. In a lot of ways it shamelessly rips off Diablo 2, but it works really well. Plus the big twist on the skills and attributes works well as far as I can see.
Me and my friend picked this up and having a blast with it playing co-op. He is playing Templar and I am playing Marauder... we only level 12 or so. The massive skill tree is a little overwhelming but insanely awesome with much diversity.
Very similar to Diablo 2 as Ssgar said, but made it a bit less tedious by eliminating gold, potions... and replacing with rechargable mana/health , and identify item scrolls is used as currency. Kind of a cool concept.
It might be blasphemy, but I had a lot more fun with Path of Exile than I did with the D3 beta. D3 was a nostalgia trip (the sounds are awesome) but as a game I was mostly unimpressed. I really thought a ton of the design choices in PoE were unique and interesting and it did a great job of holding my attention. Who knows how this will hold up after the games actually release in full though, just sharing my experience.
