Clone GT vs VX comparison thread

I took a lot of pics trying to compare / contrast the GT vs the VX, as well as took a video of them both shooting to try and hear if there is a difference in the sound signature.

I will put comments above each photo as well as the video.

Here are both drivetrains. I'll go into the differences I observed on an individual basis in later photos.

The powertube and powertube cap have some differences. The front of the powertube on the GT is flat, where the VX's is more rounded off. The powertube mid o-ring is an 011 on the GT, and 10x1 on the VX, and slightly more forward on the GT. The powertube cap is different in size, but that difference only seems to be due to the fact that the attach to the guns differently.

The valve kegs are slightly different. The back section of the VX is a bit longer where it screws into the powertube cap. Also the VX's is closed off a bit on the back where the valve stops, where the GT's is wide open with a lip inside to stop the valve. You can't really see the lip inside the GT's valve keg in the photos, but it's just a small lip.

The valve on the GT is machined to accept the larger 017 o-rings as opposed to the (2) 17x1 and (1) 15x1 on the VX. Other than that they look pretty similar other than the back of the GT's valve being a bit more rounded off.

The bolt kegs in both the GT and the VX are identical. The spacer is identical too.

The only thing I can see different on the bolts would be the obvious thing...the venturi style cap on the GT bolt. The cap makes the GT bolt a tiny bit longer...perhaps in addition to the cap, the slight length increase assists with making it handle brittle paint better due to there being slighly less of a gap between the ball and the bolt when the ball enters the breach (I'm totally guessing here). I really don't see why the red bolt couldn't be installed in a VX (I take no responsibility if you do this and something goes wrong).

I figured I would include the Militia Lube in this comparison. I don't know if there were intended differences, but the lube I got with the GT is quite a bit different in terms of thickness. The VX's is the browner color, and the GT's is the white. When I ordered the VX I got a 2oz tub of lube as well as what came with the gun, and it also was the brownish colored lube.

Many people were hoping something would be done to the grip frame to make it more comfortable in the hands. I personally don't mind the VX grip frame, but I can tell you that the GT grip frame is SO much more comfortable. Looks like the major change is that the edges on the back of the grip frame have been rounded off. This simple change makes all the difference in the world!

Here are some side by side comparisons of both the GT & the VX...plus they are sexy as can be so I wanted some shots of them both together

Last but not least, the video. The GT has less kick and is also more quiet. I don't have a chrono, so I got them shooting as close to the same speed as I could using the eyeball gauge. Hopefully the sound difference (which is not drastic) is apparent in the video. I assure you the GT is a bit more quiet in person though.

Both guns are using the .691 insert. Apologies for the delay between the each gun shooting...I only had 1 full air tank and had to swap during the vid.

Oh and the Gt is obviously the first one

Great comparison post, really well done with both photos and descriptions, this should be added to a GT sticky in this forum.

Is it just me, or in the close ups of the powertubes, the slots in the front of the powertube, does it look like the GT has shorter steeper ramping at the front of the slot compared to the VX tube? its the tiny things that can really help air flow.

This will be a tall order. If this bolt even "does" work in the VX, the only way you'll get one is if MD comes out with them as an upgrade, as people aren't going to leave themselves with boltless GT's!

You are absolutely correct in what you see. It is a shorter / steeper ramp on the GT's powertube.

I can't believe I neglected the grip frame portion of the comparison. I will add this info to the original posts, but here goes.

Are the grips made of different material this time? The Clone grips suck and fall apart way too quickly. Thanks for this by the way.

Yeah totally forgot to mention that. The grips are made out of a higher duro rubber. They feel good in the hands (not too hard) and don't feel like they are going to break down as easily as the older grips.

The did update the grips after the original V1 grips though. So basically.

Clone V1 grips > Clone V2/VX grips > Clone GT grips...in that order of durability.

It is not an LED. Guessing they use the same grip frame mold on multiple guns so perhaps the LED is there for guns like the Drone. Gives them more options even if they haven't planned a new gun that requires an LED yet...save in new frame mold costs.
