the mini is real small so if you're bigger you'd probably wanna stay away.

never shot an etha but i hear they're pretty good.

dm8 has a little more meat on it and feels real good in the hands. shoots like butter too

try and shoot em all and see what feels good to you.

I would say a lil bit older of a proto matrix. You can get them around $200-$250 and they perform like no tomorrow. I personally think they are one of the best guns when it come to performance - price ratio. They are great for a reasonable price and do just as well as most of the newer Dye guns. They aren't as good as the 2012 guns but they sure do a heck of a good job. They are also rly easy to maintain. Just be careful with taking apart the regs because sometimes they can get a bit tricky to put back together, but lubing the bolt is a piece of cake. A manual also wouldn't hurt to have on hand. Highly recommended for a player that is looking for a reasonable priced gun and it can keep you in the game with all the top of the line guns.

Going through some of these reviews should help you make a decision.

PE Etha

Dye DM8

Of those, probably the Etha. The DM would probably be the best shooter of the bunch, but they are getting a bit up in years.

Whoever suggested to handle/shoot them all and pick which you preferred was right on though. A new marker is a huge preference call, having something you feel comfortable playing with and servicing is a big deal.

I def think the dm would shoot the best. The only reason I got rid of my dm7 was because i had the cash to pick up an ego 11. someone's gonna rip me apart for this but i don't really see any difference and the dm shot smoother. weight and comfort are basically identical and i really didn't need to spend the extra money. but that's just imo of course

Of the ones you listed, hands down the Etha.
Planet Eclipse has the best support of all of those companies, and really the Etha is one of the nicest entry level markers I've ever shot.

Now if you are talking for a first gun I'd ask how you plan to use it.
Rec Play? Tournament play? Start rec and move to tourney after a while?

I always recommend players start with a pump or mech when they first start playing if they plan to play tournaments or really want to work on skills. Playing with a pump really will help build your skills much more than starting with a mech, and there isn't really a whole lot that can go wrong.

If you are looking to move up from an entry level mech, the Etha for sure.

Totally agree, I love the matrix series. I have a Proto Matrix 6 and I love it. Very reasonable in price too. I agree with everything you said. No ripping apart like you expected just agreement.

I lol'd got about a paragraph into your post, looked at your badges and everyone single one of them are basically PE Guns you own.
If you are looking to move up from an entry level mech, the Etha for sure. But IMHO I'd be a toss up between the DM8 and the Etha, I've never shot the Etha but looks smooth and the DM8 just shoots ropes all day.
