The Hunger Games

Ok so I just got back from the movie and it was great! I am a huge fan and have read the whole series. Wanted to know what everyone else on PbNation thought about either the book or the movie or even both?

Read the first book. It was ok. A bit slow at the beginning, but picks up when the game begins. Tried to go to the show tonight but it was sold out (that hardly ever happens here.) Lots of girls and women, though. At least it's not another Twilight Twinkly Vampire and Love Struck Werewolf fiasco....

Every single show was sold out at my movie theater. Had to buy tickets the night before. I agree, the book was slow at the beginning but gets really exciting. The second book is the best, defiantly should read it.

I have this theater by me called Hollywood Cinemas. It's the only one in AZ. Nobody goes there because it's sort of hidden in this center, but it's crazy nice and always empty. Great for popular movies because even on a Friday or Saturday night it's never more then half full.

I can see where your coming from, it's definitively not though. I think the book was better but the movie was still amazing. There is only about 10 minutes of actual lovey dovey ****. Great story line though!

Ok, went to the matinee with the kids today to see this. I have to say, it stuck very closely to the original story, with the exception of a couple things that wasn't in the book. The added parts didn't take away from the movie, and, actually, I believe added to it. However, like I expected, the book did translate into a movie quite pretty well and seems to have been written specifically to become a movie.

IMO, it was a good movie. Not the best I've seen, and I won't pay to see it again (might get the DVD or Blue Ray, though) but definitely not the worst. Made me want to continue reading the series. The love stuff in the movie didn't take that much time, but it did seem to me that the games part (up until the end) sort of dragged on and there wasn't much action for most of it. Basically a lot of running around while the others killed each other off (pretty much like the book).

One thing - I was disappointed in the ending:

Spoiler: (Highlight this box to see the hidden message.)
They didn't show that the whole love story thing to Katniss was just a scam and that she actually likes Gale. They should have put that in and showed that it hurt Peeta. In fact, there was an entire chapter or two devoted to this at the end of the first book. I feel it would actually help build up the next couple of movies I'm fairly certain they'll put out.

If I had to rate it out of 10 star rating, probably a solid 8/10, but could be closer to an 8.5 out of 10. Simply for the lack of character development, though.

No one is too old to enjoy any book, both my mom and dad read this book and loved it.

it means they are easy to read, not that the concept and story would only entertain teenagers.

Exactly. It's one of those "appeals to both sides" type series.

The style of writing, and so forth, is definitely written for the target demographic.

The subject matter, undertones, and general story itself is solid and will satisfy even an adult reader.

I plowed through all 3 books in a matter of days because I found it be quite engaging. Especially in the 2nd and 3rd books where it's a bit more revealing on PANEM, and the dominoes that have started tipping due to THG.

In regards to your spoiler, I feel like they will pick up with that at the beginning of the second movie.
