I'm sorry, but ICU has to be one of the worst fields i have played on. In my entire life. If it was Turf it would be a lot better.

You have to think most of ICU's players are Rec so turf is out of the question. So be glad there's a indoor for the winter months close by. Just think when it gets nice out you guys have your own field or go over to New Jack City's field @ Archery.

Turf would be better but it would probably be too expensive, I've been to ICU a handful of times and although its not the best field, the owner and staff are top notch. Like dodgeballer said at least there is a place to play in winter and its still fun, you just can't go full bore or you'll end up on your buttocks or face.

Try pricing turf when you get a chance. Its not a cost effective option for fields. If ICU got turf then you would be *****ing about the admission and paint prices. Some people are never happy....

I talked to them about the turf. It would cost a lot and then you have to have a way for the paint to drain to one spot the get the paint off site. Not Cheap either. I had the same question. I am just happy they are here and i am going to be playing there today. If i will the lottery i will build a kick *** field for them.

I have Played at ICU and have always had a good time great to go there when its cold out and be able to play paintball when there is over a ft, of snow outside. turf would be awesome but just not likely it will happen.

Do you guys run team practice at all? Thinking about getting some of the Riot guys over there in the next few weeks.

We just had a Riot fellow here today. You'll want to contact Alpinetraxxx here on PbN for team play info.

Can you expand on this? If it's one of the worst, what makes it the worst?
Field owner?
Field condition/setup/bunkers?
Clientele?
Rules?
I'm curious because i was going to take some 1st timer friends there some weekend.

You shouldn't be concerned about taking new players to ICU.
You can play with your group all day, and will not be forced to work in other players with your group.
The floor takes a few games to get used to. But it is playable. You don't want to start your first game with a full on sprint to the 50, you'll eat sawdust. New players will be fine with the floor.
Field owner and staff stress safety, even better for a new group.
I've been there twice. Enjoyed both trips.

ICU's main focus is recreational players, and a lot of the decisions made on their part make so-called tournament players unhappy. This is easily ICU's greatest strength: getting new players interested inlaying more.

.....and the more people who play and get involved makes Iowa paintball that much stronger.

The floor Is fine. You can run full speed and slide just fine. (at least I can) It's hard (cause it's plywood). But every field that gets played on regularly is hard. Bunkers/field layout is always questionable. But for what it is it is nice. And will do for now.
Not worth hating on, it is what it is, and will probably always be.
Tournament players will have options when it gets nice outside, which might be really soon here, due to global warming
Love
Brad

Worn tennis/trainer/skate shoes with rubber (not that tan gum) sole. The more you play, the better those shoes get because the paint makes them more pliable, able to stick better.
I say "so-called" tourney players because most of the players who complain about it generally aren't solid players yet, and many are wiling to blame anything else for their shortcomings. Sure turf is great for some, but it isn't the be-all end-all.

I wear 13 dollar walmart velcro shoes. (fastbacks). They work great. Last week a borrowed a pair of chuck's (all-stars, with the double toung). They worked alright but not as good as the fastbacks
