I started a screen printing business last summer, it went pretty well. I wouldn't suggest it to anyone else though. I'm starting my own clothing line this summer as well, but seeing as you totally are just trying to jump in this because it seems like a great idea... gtfo, don't waste your time or money. Especially with some yolo bull****.

yolol
several hundred might get you in the door with a company to print your shirts.
To start even a very small operation you would need at least 10 large. Fellow I went to college with started with 10 and he's been at it for 4 years now, he just made his money back, things are looking good but then again he knew what he was doing and doesn't think yolo is the coolest name to get a company off the ground.. and he knew a bunch of hot *****es that would wear his stuff all over the place.

I dont know why this thread is still going. The name is trademarked in nearly every industry (multiple times in clothing) and there are hundreds of other yolo shirts.
The registered trademark is enough to kill this idea.

I honestly dont know why someone would start a clothing company. You dont manufacture the clothing yourself, the expenses are high, profit is low, you pay high premiums, there are clothing stores EVERYWHERE and its extremely hard to make it into anything big. Near impossible actually unless it is something completely different.
Your best bet to do something for yourself is to start a service company. There are almost no expenses and most of the time the things you do are free. For example I make a living off nightclub guestlists and service. I pay nothing for these services and every sale is 100% profit (kind of). I started the company with $20 and ever worked again since.
Service is where it is at.

to the op
start by first getting photo shop and illustrator and taking a few collage courses or how to use them. and one or two biz courses. I would start out with pb and or t-shirts. find one or two good local screen printers as see what they can and cant do. and there cost per run. ie set up fee and cost per shirt. a lot of t-shirts printed and non printed are made in china and shipped here. there a few web sites like http://www.alibaba.com/ that puts comp in contact with other comp. you also want to talk to a cpa as there things you can write off for biz start up and also talk to local small biz rep they can show you if there are grant money or loans for start up. the small biz rep will also tell you if you need to go to town hall or with the state and reg your company.inc or dba.
you also need software like peachtree accounting for the books. also a biz checking for the company.

I own a screen printing company and am regularly contacted by individuals interested in a start up clothing line.
My honest opinion would be to source a local screen printer who you are comfortable working with, and then ask them for their advice.
Screen printers want young start up clothing lines to succeed, because the more money you make selling shirts, the more money they make printing them.

You want to know why this won't work? You have no idea what you're doing, you don't have any start up funds ( I assume), you're gonna need a lawyer to fight a recording artist corporation ( you won't win) and you don't have any designs... If you still want to do this send me a pm and I will be glad to answer any questions you have.
