Not entirely true. At least the local/state groups I coordinate with, generally have a better knowledge and understanding of the US involvement in foreign countries. Republicans for the most part have this false sense of "history started on 9/11, they hate us for our freedom bull****." That being said I have run into a handful of people who like Paul Solely because they want to smoke legally. My hope is that they research and look into other, more pressing issue, as important as ending the drug war/legalizing hemp would be socially and economically, there are people being killed all over the world in our name and our troops are being used as pawns.
And although probably rare, I have more or less changed both of my parents opinions on many issues and shed light on the historical significance of the US and middle east relations, for what its worth I think its progress,
As for electing a president in this country I think these guys sum it up nicely:

I can't believe anyone places their new president hopes in Santorum. If he is the republican candidate, if anything, Obama will get more votes in the presidential election. Count on it.
Seriously. I probably won't vote if it's Romney v. Obama, because I don't like either of them, but if it's Santorum, I'll go vote for Obama just to vote against that douche.

Annnnd he pissed off the whole internet community... if you guys think political attack ads are bad just wait until all the 4chan'ers get themselves worked up into a fervor over this.
Agreed. If the internet community mattered, Ron Paul would be running for re-election right now instead of getting soundly beaten in the Republican primary.

This decadent charlatan's assault on the fapatory establishment will not proceed with out due retaliation. As a passionate fapper I am shocked and appalled. Fapping (and all fapping related media) is a proud, well established tradition of these United States of this America. I wish a thousand deaths upon the political career and power of this terrorist posing as a public servant.
The war on porn isn't really much of a concern... other than this crazy **** is a legitimate GOP candidate.
The real problem is his war on science.
Who needs science when you can just make up facts? It's much easier to make them work for you that way:
“In the Netherlands, people wear different bracelets if they are elderly. And the bracelet is: ‘Do not euthanize me.’ Because they have voluntary euthanasia in the Netherlands but half of the people who are euthanized — ten percent of all deaths in the Netherlands — half of those people are enthanized involuntarily at hospitals because they are older and sick. And so elderly people in the Netherlands don’t go to the hospital. They go to another country, because they are afraid, because of budget purposes, they will not come out of that hospital if they go in there with sickness.”

I've been a resident of Pennsylvania my entire life and a PSU alum.
I apologize for Rick Santorum and I want to clear things up about Pennsylvania.
See, I'm from Eastern PA. We have running water, in door plumbing, science, and all the infrastructure and luxuries of modern civilization. However, once you get West of the Susquehanna, you're in hell until you hit Chicago. Santorum is from Western PA, or as they call it, Pennsyltucky. This is a land filled with ignorance, hate, and nascar.

So eastern and western Pennsylvania are polar opposites? Well, Vermont and New Hampshire are, but if you don't live up this way, you can think that both states are very similar, so I can understand that point. More religious people in western Pennsylvania, right? (Not sure why rnaurman quoted you 5 times...)
And yes, the war on science is dangerous. I think more and more people are waking up to religious brainwashing little by little as time goes on, but still, allowing such nonsense in schools in the form of "intelligent design" is a sign of ignorance and idiocy. The only person who even supports Intelligent design who has a clue about science that I might respect, is Michael Behe (he raises some valid points to be fair) and supports evolution to be real. He thinks people like Rick are crazy, but simply holds it as "possible" that someone designed us.....which isn't a completely crazy notion to be fair. the Big Bang isn't exactly rich with mounds of evidence either, but both trump the bible.

Way to try and derail the thread into a religious pun.
I see now that the circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant... It is what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are.
Steam: N-Ur-Face
I waiting for the day Santorum has to use some lame "wide stance" excuse for his behavior in a bathroom. He's so over the top with the values stuff that you know an "it was only for research" is coming sometime soon.
Like many "promises", this one is going to fall to the way-side if santorum miraculously gets to the white house. I'm not getting worked up over something that he is using to grab the "family values" vote but won't follow through with anyway.
In this case, I don't think Santorum is trying to lock up the "family values" vote. I think he's speaking from the heart and proposing something that he'd really like to see happen. Look at his personal activities (bringing his stillborn child home to meet his kids, etc). The guy is bat**** crazy.
