R7 Paintball Gun Camera with a new gun mount specifically for paintball
Article taken from ProPb
Quote:
After several years of development, Greg “Red” Hastings is preparing to launch his new paintball gear brand R7.
Today a photo surfaced of one of the first R7 products, the R7 Replay Paintball Camera. Available in 1080 High Definition, Greg’s camera comes complete with a paintball gun mount and will enable you to both document your paintball experience and confirm your shots.
Here is a sneak peak;

Helmet mounted paintball cameras have become immensely popular in recent years. Up until recently, we had (wrongly) assumed that the use of these small HD cameras was limited to tournament players. However, we learned this was not the case on our Presidents day paintball trip. ProPaintball staff noted 3 or 4 of the players (of our 60 person walk-on group) were using GoPro’s to document their day. In addition to those wearing the cameras, several paintball players were discussing buying their own Helmet mounted HD Cameras. Seems that R7 may have a hot paintball product on their hands.
The question is, will R7 be able to out market GoPro & ContourHD in the paintball world?

These cameras pack a pretty good picture for what they are.

They are late to the market and the Re-Play cameras just aren't as good as the GoPro or the Contour cams. If you want an easy mount for a Gopro just get the bike seat post mount and clamp it to your barrel or get the goggle-strap mount and your done. I've taken shots directly on the case and mine still works fine!
I'm sure people will buy it because it is 'paintball' branded but the alternatives are superior..

Since when was the last time you tried RePlay? They have made DRASTIC improvements since their original models. GoPro may have the market, but all three systems have their pros and cons. At least the replay is built to withstand more than the GoPro. It is built out of billet aluminum and not in a plastic breakable case that gets blown to pieces every time its shot. My Gopro cases always seem to break. The entire package of the replay is small and nice to. You can HDMI out. It doesn't have distorted pov. You can do external audio. And it only weighs 3 oz. It was designed for and by racers.
Its a nice package.
Go pro though has a lot of features too that are great. Pick whatever suits your needs best. And Replay HAS been around. They started with the original XD before they did a 1080 version. Just like go pro. I have one of the original GoPros. Everyone seems to forget that GoPro had a model before HD. Replay just didn't have the publicity that the others have had. And this is just a private label version of the Replay. Yes though, the go pro may be more cost effective at some point, but you have to decide what you want out of the camera. Out of the tests I have done, the replay's hd quality beats the go pro, at least in some aspects. Other aspects, maybe not. Go pro though is highly over saturated. Both beat a contour imo.
I like both. Choose what fits you the best.

You say "Holy crap" to a $70 price difference? Not that bad. GoPros are about that price anyhow.

I seen this two weeks ago at the Tour of Duty game at Old River Paintball. Greg had a mount that he designed that isn't on the website. The way it mounts is it replaces the collar on your feedneck, yet still allows you to tighten your feedneck after. Pretty cool setup if you don't have any rails to mount it to otherwise.

The part where you made it seem that GoPro's case is weak made me lol. Hard. I have run over a GoPro in it's case with my truck. While it did crack the case, the camera was completely fine. That being said, my GoPro has been shot by paintballs, dragged along pavement, and fallen through cliff chutes with me and the case has not yet broken.
Just saying, don't knock the case because it's plastic. Compare them on picture quality and mount capability if you think the competitor's cases can also hold up to that beating.

Lucky you then. My use has says otherwise. Mine have always broke when it got shot near the lense cover ring area or the hinge. If the hinge breaks, so much for holding the case closed. 30$+ for a new casing multiple times gets old...fast...I am not saying breaking the camera it self...I was talking about the casing. Sure the casing is strong, but it has its major weak points. And I am not dissing Go Pro. They are amazing cameras. I think you took what I said the wrong way. I said chose what fits your needs the best. It just seemed that he was bashing a product he has yet to try. I have used/own both. So I say its a far comparison.

That thing needs to be half price of the GoPro or Contour or its not going to sell, especially if it costs more.

Yes because that is almost 33% more expensive than my contour. It doesn't even have a GPS feature.
As for the custom mounting. That is interesting, if it is included, it may be worth the price.

If you look at the video, his teammate swaps out his gun before he goes into the snake. It must have been out of air or having issues. You can see the camera mounted on his gun as he walks away. So no, it wasn't on there.
