Need advice on trucks.

So my brother has a 2004 Silverado 1500 that he is trying to sell me, but I also have had a few other trucks catch my eye. Basically I have narrowed it down to two trucks, and I am having the hardest time deciding which to go with.

Brothers truck:
-2004 1500 Z71
-5.3L V8
-6 inch RCX suspension lift
-Brand new Mickey Thompson Classic 2's with 34' Dick Cepek FC-2's
-Under 69k miles
-Its been in the family for the past 10k miles and I know the history, its been babied

The second contender...
-2001 2500HD
-8.1L V8
-12 inch suspension lift
-Sitting on Toyo M/T open countrys with 20X12 fuel hostages
-Just about 147k miles
-8 foot bed (major plus to me)

Both will be about the same price around 14k, but I cant decide if the extra power I would be getting can outweigh the fact of having 147K miles. Thoughts?

If you're really wanting to go that big you really REALLY should get a diesel.

I'd go with the first one. Lower mileage, know the history and it actually looks decent.

Seriously though, I don't see why you'd want a lifted truck other than the "CHECK OUT MY SWEET TRUCK, BRO" thing. If you want a truck that has been babied, that tells me you'd continue to do so and not **** it up off road. If you want a truck with a long bed, that tells me you'll probably use it for work to some extent. Why would you want to lift heavy **** higher than you need to because your bed is so much higher than it needs to be?

Just saying, you might want to really think about what you want in a truck and what isn't that important.

I do a lot of offroading and i haul mostly bikes/quads etc. Also, did you ever consider maybe its what i want to drive? You make it sound like all i care about is how big it is, no. Maybe it fits my criteria for my ideal vehicle, something i can take pretty much anywhere and not worry about being stuck.

Edit: This thread shouldnt be about size. it needs answers from knowledgeable people. Is getting a truck that used (2500) worth the extra power? If not, post why so. Or should i go with the smaller Z71, and sacrifice power for the trucks youth?

I would go with first truck. Anything past a small lift is just tacky and useless. Plus, it's low miled, looks to be in good condition and knowing the history is a HUGE plus. And, it isn't a piece of ****.. Whoever decided to do all that work to a gas engine should be shot.

Also, just wondering, why are you going extended cab over a full four door? The chevy 3door/4door extended cab design is pretty spacious for the whole extended thing, but I would have dropped my old 3door for a 4 door truck any day.

Also, front license plate on the first truck makes it worth the money, already.

And last, but not least, I wouldn't pay 14k for either truck personally.

Edit: **** you ego.

I figured perhaps you wanted it so you could say "CHECK OUT MY SWEET TRUCK, BRO" and things like that.

If you are going to get a lifted truck, might as well get one with a bunch of ground clearance. That's what I did!

More power? I thought the changes in ratings (1500,2500,3500 etc) was axles, towing capacity, and pretty much brakes.

The second one has noticeable paint wear from where it looks like mud has sat for extended periods of time. The paint on it isn't so perfect. The first one is desirable for just that reason.

From what uses you described you dont need a 3/4 ton truck. The first truck would be the obvious choice, even if only for the fact that it doesn't look like ****.

Dont get diesel truck unless you can work on it yourself or know for sure that you have enough money to pay someone else.

Wanted Merica plate on a Gt500, but it's not available in MA.

Why are you not buying a King Ranch F250?
