Now, I hope this doesn't stop them from running a tournament outside the US next year. We can only hope that people will take the hint and apply for a passport, but I doubt it.

Never mind the fact it can take up to 6 months to get a passport... Some times longer... What happens when teams dont have all their passport stuff in order?
Most "normal every day" people don't have a passport. They simply have no reason to have one. That was probably a major factor in this...

This argument only applies for international tournaments. During the regular season they are Boston Bruins, not Canadians, Americans, Finns, Czechs, etc.
That would be like saying an American team won the MLB World Series as opposed to the St. Louis Cardinals winning.
