I think PSP should fine players for major penalties almost like the NFL does for larger penalties. This would help eliminate all the cheating that the pros do and generate funds for PSP.

That is actually a very interesting idea. Has this been brought up before?

Yeah, not a bad idea. But the fines couldn't be nearly as large as those in the nfl, because most pb players are dirt poor as it is.

For paintball to get significantly cheaper than it is now, we'd need a HUGE influx of players. Even then business might keep prices where they are now, and just enjoy making extra margin rather than just scraping by, the way many of them do currently.
I'm one of those that buys into the "High ROF killed paintball" argument though. To me making it cheaper isn't necessarily the best route. We made paintball cheap. It didn't work. Mostly, IMHO, because we made it cheap for guys to beat on newbs and rooks to the point where they left the sport all together.
Outside sponsorship would be awesome, but with the economy the way it is currently, and the relatively small number of participants in paintball, that'll be a tough row to hoe. Still though, there is a lot of potential advert space on those bunkers. I can't believe that PSP and NPPL can't find ANYONE outside of paintball willing to put their name on a center A or an Aztec etc.
Increased exposure would be great, but everytime I see paintball on TV or in the media, it's never done in a way that speaks to anyone outside the sport. It's either made a mockery of, like in movies. Or it's so tightly geared for players that anyone who hasn't played X-ball before has no idea what's going on.
You'd think in all of that downtime between points they'd take a minute to explain what the hell was going on to people who'd never seen paintball before, but it never happens. Instead we might get an interview with a guy we've got no interest in, or footage from a different game, that we still don't understand.
In football they might take the time between plays tp explain the route a receiver ran, or a blocking scheme. In baseball, we see the pitch, or the exciting play fifteen times from all different angles. In paintball we see a bunch of guys hunkering down and shooting paint at "nothing" and no one ever explains what's going on. It's as if we assume that the game will stand on its own merits with an audience that has never seen it before, and likely never participated at any level.
I've never played a down of organized football in my life, but I can explain to you the difference between a 3-4 and a 4-3 defense. I can't get a baseball over the plate, but I can tell when the pitcher is using his fastball to set up his change or curve. Paintball has these massive time gaps between set pieces, but we don't take advantage of them at all. No explanation for what's going on, no brief history lesson on who the best players are, or even why they're the best. No, "Hey, if you want to check this out for real, look for a field in your area!"
In short, we do a piss poor job of selling this sport, and THAT is what needs to change most of all.

This is a new one that was brought to my attention today, the availability of having a good field close enough to be worth playing at.
