Trust me, I was just as surprised as everyone else. It's similar, but not exactly the same. I got the idea from looking at an AR15 I was intending to buy.
I sent John Rice (the designer of the new Tippmann gun) a message saying "Great minds think alike, or fools rarely differ?" he picked "fools rarely differ".
He's a good friend of mine and I wish him and everyone at Tippmann well with their new gun. Denny Tippmann JR was kind enough to take me through theirs in detail, and we reciprocated with ours too.
They are similar in that the split line is horizontal and that they pivot in some way (theirs at the back, ours at the front), otherwise the details inside and the thought process through some of the design decisions is quite different. I am sure people will see that themselves as they get more familiar with both guns.

thats my point, they both offer the same features, but the BT is still layed out like it predecessors, where as the tippmann FT is a bit rearranged.
the BT retains the Iconic look.
not to say the FT wont be up to snuff. I can instantly see the potential in it.
But like i said there is alot going for the BT that brings alot to the table that will offer a challenge to the tippy fleet this year.

I honestly can't say which I like more, the tippy has the gas through line and it looks like the BT can take more upgrades. I hope they make a break down vid of the BT too.

Didn't take long for them to fall in line with Tippie's flip top. GG.

i really wanted to get my hands on the ft12 just for fun, but if its just for field owners i guess there are practically the same. I mean the 98 and the combat were almost identical so whats the difference

I like the body on this one, compared to the original BT4. The front end almost has as MP7ish vibe to it. I'm really digging seeing fliptops being made.
Edit: Ohmygod. Cocking mechanism is awesome, I can probably attach a 10 rd tube feed to it. I'm happy, its like all the things I wanted in a cheap mech for awhile. I'm forsure going to pick this one up

Simon you are always epic
I think what people are getting hung up on is that both flip up to access the internals. Beyond that they look to be pretty different (good example steel braided hose vs. no macroline).

Gentlemen please learn your history .
You may find information in the Thread Archives here on PBN to have some very informative and entertaining info on the beginnings of BT and it's relationship with Tippmann .

when did i say anything about the tippmann family past?
i like it how even after addressing a point of comparison, even well regarded members skim over the content with glassed over eyes.
last time.
for clarity,
yes this issue of tippy and this issue of BT are quite similar. the platforms are essentially the same...... yes? are we all together this far? oka, heres where I blow your mind.
they have vastly similar designs and (some parts too)
but the fact that Tippmann strayed away from the 98 setup on this gun, forgoing much of the current after-market availability that the BT will still retain due to its, again, traditional design.
even if i somehow lost anyone in that minute string of text there.
please. just nod, yes and repeat after me,
"yes jono, it is curious that tippmann is changing up the game with their new design"
and if any folks are still with me, im curious if kee's vast library of accessories has much to do with it. (which to say is always a good thing, simon )

its not a new design though, tippmann just took the 98 guts and put it in a new shell thats all.
Bt took the BT-4 guts (which are the same design as the 98 guts) and put them in a BT-4 body which can be split in half
if anything this will help BT more than tippmann as things like triggers for the BT-4 i am suspecting from what I have seen can still be used on the slice, tippmann on the other hand designed a completely new trigger frame for the FT-12
so if you are running a field, you have a fleet of old 98s and are looking for something that is easier to work on, do you go with the FT-12 which you will also have to buy a crap ton of spare parts for, or do you go with the slice which uses a majority of the same spare parts you already have?
easy choice
on a side note, does anyone know if the RTs and E-frames for the BT-4 will work with the slice?

BT 4 vs. FT 12
I have a PB field, usualy I use Spider markers on CO2, they shoots over 600 balls with a tank of 12 oz CO2, and they are extremy easy to clean. Last year I took fiew FT12, they shoots arround 350 balls with the same gas. Also the Spider can be opened and cleaned under pressure. I tried to open the FT12 and almost died because I did not know that it can't be opened under pressure. I saw somewhere that the BT4 can be opened under pressure. How it works, is it easy as it is on their web site? And of course how much balls can shoot the BT 4 with a 12 oz CO2 bttle?
Thanks
