Setting up Reball on campus
Hey everyone, the Santa Clara University Paintball Club is trying to set up a Reball field on campus. We are looking to set it up in our gym and have a snap shooting cage and bunkers. Like almost every other school, we have the rule of no guns of any sort allowed on campus. The next step is to convince the university that paintball is statistically safe and we need people to back it up. If any of your schools have paintball or Reball on campus could you please PM me with any information that might help bring Reball to Santa Clara University's campus. Thanks in advance.
Derek

We have 8 reball cages on campus and are allowed to have our guns. They aren't firearms so the camous police are cool with it. Everyone acts responsible with them and we have had no problems.

I think Maryland also has a snap cage in one of their gyms.

University of West Florida has a small reball field inside. We have had 0 accidents so far and we been doing it for 3 years. Safe enough?? lol

Yes I know we have crappy bunkers, its what the club have when I took over, i'm currently working on getting the club new bunkers and a compressor. Since we now have been given land on campus to practice/play on
One is a 5 acres of woods and the other is big enough flat land for 2 - 3 regulation size psp field. Our campus police actually like what we do since I will litterly YELL at people for being unsafe with there paintball markers.
Btw you would diffently want an easy way to pick up those reballs. We have made some pvc ball pushers out of 3/4" pipe i can take a pic of it if you like and we have a reball picker which you can get from here.

Thanks for the replies. We are trying to contact people whose campuses have Reball or paintball so if you could PM me with your contact information our club would greatly appreciate it.
How do you guys deal with containing the Reballs? As I said, we have a snap cage big enough for 1 on 1s. However, we would like to run full team drills. For those of you whose schools have Reball do you use netting? And if so, how do you go about storing everything so the facilities are still usable for the other students when we are not using them?
We are trying to use this as both a convenient and cheaper method of practice as well as exposing the club to more students.

For schools with actual paintball fields or reball fields, do you run tournaments for other students to play? One idea we have if this idea is allowed is to run a tournament for the fraternities and sororities or other students. This would be a good way for us to raise money and in return, we could give the school a portion of the money back.

We use an indoor socccer field which we reserve every week to play paintball, as for containing them we just have them in a bin and put them in a locker which the school has provided to lock up all our equipment.

We are trying to contact other clubs who have either paintball or Reball on campus to figure out what we need to do to get the idea passed. So if your school has either please contact us.
Here is the list of schools we know or at least think have either:
Kennesaw State University, University of Tennessee, University of West Florida, University of Maryland, Texas A&M University, Michigan Tech, Louisiana Tech, Liberty University, George Mason University, West Point, South Dakota University, Augustana College, North Alabama University, UW-Stout, and Mississippi University.
Thanks to all of you who have already contacted me.

At Missouri S&T we used to have an indoor turf soccer field that the campus let us use. We put signs on the doors that said masks beyond this point. Everyone Chrono'd down and it worked well, we always left the place in better condition than when we came. However the University tore down the old turf field, built a new Indoor track and turf field but the Athletic Director claims that it is for Varsity use only. (I have never seen sports teams use it.)

How did you get your school to approve of the idea? Our biggest obstacle is the school's rule on no guns of any sort are allowed on campus.

We just talked to the person who was in charge of operating that building at the time. We explained to them what was up and the put us on the schedule for Tuesday and Thursday Nights from like 8:30pm to 11pm. The problem now is that the new building is under the AD's control and he won't allow it so we are now stuck with 10,000 reballs and a set of bunkers that we hardly get to use.

We had our Recreation Department back us up, Our school policy is a lot better than most we just can't have them in the dorm. Then our club added to the policy by saying it shouldn't be assembled unless your on the field to prevent basically anything happening.

The problem lies in that it will be hard to get them to allow us to even permit markers on campus because the university's rules about not having any type of gun on campus is very strictly adhered to.

Well is it classified as a gun in your state??
Or in your handbook?
Because here in Florida its considered a Non-lethal weapon.
and because of our history we have 0 incidents on campus so they were fine with us having a reball field, woodball field and soon 1-3 regulation size turf outdoor fields.

You can always talk to your Dept. about getting the policy changed, show them that it wouldn't be a danger to the campus or student bodies, let them know about school who allow it on campus and etc, us being on of them.

NAH I think we will hang onto it beacause we are looking into alternative locations like local high school gyms and churchs in the area that have gyms as well. What sucks is Rolla, Mo is a very small town and the school is about half the population of the town so alternatives are hard to find.
Not to try and steal this thread away from you Nomahsib, but Zergdog, how did you get the school to approve getting fields on campus? How are those projects funded?

Which project, and personally not sure, It was set up a year before I took over, but from what I understand it was our Recreation's Dept. Idea to have a reball field. But then I pointed out we can only do so much with a small field and asked for more space, and etc so we started looking at solutions. We ended up with permission to use part of the woods and some already clear land which will be later improved because of all the other changes that are happening on campus.

We can try, but I highly doubt that will yield any changes.

ECU has not, and will not for the forseeable future, been allowed to participate in any paintball activity on campus. Unfortunately, our administration and club sports office, as well as our PD, doesn't give us the time of day to discuss such things.
I envy any school that plays paintball on campus in any capacity.
