Does a barrel longer than 20-in make a difference?
The title ^ Does a 24 inch barrel have a marked increase in accuracy and distance over a 20 inch?

that long barrel will also need a lot of air/gas to propel the ball up to speed against that much drag

No. In fact once you get over about 12 inches, extra barrel length is only useful for pointability and pushing your bunker / shrubbery. Once you get above 16, the extra length may begin to hurt efficiency, as well as get in the way.

Why....why would you ever use anything longer than 16? Your efficiency with air due to the up in required pressure for propulsion would be terrible.
Lol better make your one good shot count

Nope, they actually hurt your gun if anything.
I want to go over a few things about barrels this forum fails to reflect on people:
1.) ALL BARRELS HAVE THE SAME ACCURACY! Holy ****, buying a Dye UL barrel will not shoot better than a Eigenbarrel! My god, I hate seeing posts like "Oh yeah, buy the Dye UL barrel, you'll get great accuracy. I love having sex with it and waffles. CP barrels suck." God damn shut up about accuracy. Want to shoot an accurate gun? Join the military. They're dead on accurate.
2. Any barrel over $50 is overpriced. I'm talking about Dye 2 pieces or whatever. They don't do anything. At all. They just shoot paint through it. You're buying the name. Efficiency will increase by like .001% if anything. If you bought a dye barrel or any barrel over $50, I'm happy to say you ****ed yourself.

The only benefit to a long barrel is if you are playing woodsball and hiding behind thick bushes that you want to shoot through. But once you get in a structure you will notice that the longer barrel makes it harder to get good angles.

Something you might want to look into if distance is your desire: a Flatline barrel.
You can't better your accuracy so much as you can increase your consistency. You do this by getting a barrel kit in order to have a tighter ball to barrel fit. Freak, iFit, mult-back whatever, etc.
That being said, if you're doing it just for "tacticool" effect or whatever... rock on.
If the barrel fails you, throw a grenade.

Tom Kaye (Of Airgun Designs) did a study a long while ago, testing different barrel lengths. His studies show that 11" is the optimal length. Anything else adds drag to the ball.

Simply put, a similiar projectile, shot at a similiar velocity and trajectory will result in similiar distances. No matter how long a tube you shoot it out of.
