Turn your back cap in about .25 turns. Up your dwell a tad and set your pressure to ~170psi.

Raised the dwell higher and it's still sporadic.

Although each marker is milled to different tolerance, what is the max amount of turns one should have to turn the back cap out?
Velocity jumping, is usually a sign of the orings on the bolt guide being worn.... I'd try to change those first, before getting into anything major.

With the Lurker bolt the bolt guide orings are slightly less important. The poppet oring/ lube and overly aggressive dwells are usually the problem.

Boss or Lurker

I am going to upgrade my bolt.

Which one is easier to tune? I still hear people have difficulty tuning the Lurker whereas the Boss is plug and play.

Poppet oring was recently changed and lubed. Possibly regulator problem?

I'm not exactly sure if it is considered shoot down, but usually first shot is good velocity then it drops down 25-30fps. Gauge shows 170psi, but then continuous shots the gauge is around 150psi, it will only go back up to 170psi if I stop.

Personally I like the XSV and Infamous bolts the best for tuning. The recommended settings are close to spot on and need very little tuning. Lurker bolts are great when you get them to work

I decided on the Boss V2 bolt instead. My friend just put one in his axe and it works great.

What are your options if you are getting blowback? Using reballs and tuning with two loaded in feedneck..

Based on the method, I got 1.5 turns out at 180 psi before FPS stops going up. As I lower my pressure, I get blowback. Was lowering in increments of -10 psi at a time. Stopped at 150 psi as FPS was way low. Went back up to 160 psi and tried increasing dwell by .5 ms increments but didn't seem to help either.

Stock bolt with fresh lubrication of Orings. Also, using stock barrel which could be causing some FPS issues since its a larger bore than the reballs.

Went back to original setting of 180 psi, 1 full turn out on back cap. At this set up, chrono'ing 290 +/- 7. Was happy with this but just thought I see if I could lower pressure some more without aftermarket bolt.

Is your check valve in place? A missing check valve may be responsible for the blowback. Where is your dwell with the stock bolt? Do you have access to a tighter bore? You should be able to drop your pressure considerably with a tighter bore.

Haven't checked the check valve, but if I put it back to it's initial settings (1 turn out on back cap, 180 PSI, Dwell 8) I get no blow back. As for barrel, unfortunately, for the time being, I am stuck with the stock barrel. I guess I will await new barrel to come in first before doing more tuning.

Ok I used this method. Started at 180 psi, boss bolt turn in with the recommended short spring. Probably turned it out 2.5 full turns maybe a little more before the fps second stopped. Here's what's strange to me, I had to turn the pressure down to 120psi just to get a consistent reading under 300. I then tuned the dwell and ended up with 6ms dwell. 10 shots on chrono read 294, 291, 295, 295, 294, 288, 294, 296, 290, 291. Seems good to me. Was shooting with a 68/4500 tank, and deadly wind barrel with .679 under bore freak insert. This thing is shooting so much more consistent now. Wishi had read this before my last tournament.

I used this method to tune my brand new axe with infamous boss bolt today. It is shooting 290 +-4fps at 145psi and a dwell at 5ms. I'm guessing after a few cases I will be able to drop the dwell down a little more. Right now though I couldn't be happier with it. No noticeable kick and the gun is super quiet. Even without paint it was shooting quieter than my Viking.

About Dwell

I'm sort of new to a lot of the terms, and to the axe, but what exactly does playing with the dwell do?

Also I own a redline, so is there anything in the setting I should mess with to better my gun's performance?

If you could help, I would really appreciate it!
