Alien Ware Opinions

What the title says and how do they work. Hopefully good, planning on getting a laptop one of these days. Plus a gaming computer is nice.

Many people have a hatred toward Alienware because of their poor customer service and cost. Hating on AW is also trendy and the favorite passtime of many people around the world. The International I hate Alienware Sporting Association...
I own one. It works great. You'll also want to look at Asus and Toshiba if you are looking for a laptop.

Good computers. Fantastic customer service, from what I've experienced (though that was years and years ago).

But you pay the price of a Ferrari for a Mercedes. It's really never worth it. You're better off building a computer yourself and learning how the thing operates so you can save lumps of money for a better performing computer and learn to trouble shoot problems yourself so you don't have to send anything out.

Serious post. Same thoughts as most here.

You're paying extra money for an over glorified "gaming laptop". Toshiba, dell, ASUS, etc all make laptops that can probably play the same games at cheaper cost, however....

A gaming laptop isn't worth buying. Unless you fly around the country for your job, active military and you move around a lot, etc., don't get a gaming laptop. Build a decent gaming desktop for $600, spend the rest on a cheap laptop if you need one for reports and ****. A $600 gaming desktop will beat out a $1500 gaming laptop most likely.

All high end laptops, in my opinion, do. I only use my laptops for general stuff, and maybe if I need portability for a project. Never game on them.

I'd hate to game on a laptop. I'd miss my 42" monitor and my mechanical keyboard.

Kidding aside... I have had many laptops (personal and work), and they all suffered from heat issues... and batteries suck. My iPad is the only portable device I use now when I go out... and the battery lasts me the whole day. I still have 2 laptops... and my work laptop is being serviced by IT this week because of overheating issues. We basically keep our personal laptop at home since we have iDevices... but we keep it on a cooling pad because that thing gets hot fast.

If you are thinking of gaming most of the time at home... I'd say build a desktop if you want to save money. I felt intimidated when I built my first computer... but it's easier than I thought.

If you're talking about desktop, save yourself money, have some fun, learn something, and build your own =D. If you're talking about laptop, I love my M14x. It runs almost everything high to maxed (skyrim maxed ftw) and gives me a system powerful enough to do decent video work and game while I'm away from my desktop. As somebody else said, check out Asus, but I'd say stay away from Toshiba (horrible quality control from what my friends have said) and MSI is also very good.

About 3/4 of Toshiba's HDDs are failing out of the box or 3 months down the road so I am with him on this.

Drew doesn't know what he's talking about.

I've got a decent laptop, but I'm active military. I plan on getting a desktop as soon as I get to my next duty station. However, a dell 17r with the right options is a great laptop. I love mine.

If you want a "gaming" laptop, get a Clevo/Sager of some kind.

ASUS has been having some serious sales on their Republic of Gamers laptops which make them good deals, but I agree with Oedipus that a Clevo based laptop like a Sager is the best bet.
