Getting into engraving

Whats a good electric engraver? Also, any ideas on what to practice on? I may engrave some stuff for friends so i need to make sure i'm good.

Are you looking to engrave like simple line designs similar to lasering? I know a ton of people use a dremel tool with a flex line attachment.

Most of what i'm doing will be like drawings, maybe some scrolling.
(i.e. my friend in the navy wants me to do an anchor with some simple, flowing lines around it to represent waves)

You could use the hand gravers. I used to watch my grandpa do prints on copper, however I think I remember him telling me aluminium doesn't cut very cleanly.

That would depend on the type of aluminum, but for the most part, that's correct. Aluminum is soft and it will throw a bur easier
