Restarting?
well i used to play paintball when i was a bit younger, back then i was using just like an ion w/ blackheart and an egg loader etc . Well that was a pretty long time ago, i did sell all my gear when i stopped playing, so i now have 0 PB gear and i am starting to get the urge to play again lol. Well, new things come out, things change, prices change.. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with an ok setup, somehting that isnt TOO expensive but is not bad, i rather not play if im at such a disadvantage, so something that i could actually compete with you know. Uhm, Mask, (i'm about 5'7 not too big), marker, loader, tank, pack. Gloves are pretty cheap so im not worried about that, and i'd get pants after a bit, after i get my main setup though so dont want to include that. My price range is ehh, around 600 ish? a really good setup that is cheaper would be great too, just dont want something that will make me not even want to play lol, lets be honest, for most ppl using a DM is 10x more fun than a tipman, or atleast for me. but you get the point (:

Check out Ego 7/8's they are still great guns and can be found for 250-450 range. Empire Axe used for 350ish is a great gun as well.
Tanks budget 100 for a used 4500 tank with at least 3 years left
Mask find the best mask you can afford and is comfortable
Loader Old halos work great still and you can get them for 25-35 used pretty much all day
Packs pods etc expect to spend 20-50

I agree with ken. Guns that were 1200 back when you were playing can be picked up cheap. I haven't bought a new gun in a looong time.

good mask like i4/3's, profits,(or old school, up to you)= 70$ or so
id say look at an ego 8 or 9(or dm up to you)=400
rotor or prophecy(if getting a prophecy get a v2)= 100+(rotor) 60(proph)
good carbon fiber tank(stubby, 45/45, 68/45)=90+
then youd be about set, aside from pants, jersy, pod pack and anything else your heart desires

There aren't any hoppers worth writing home about that are worth the money you spend on them.
Proflex is still a great mask and it's only $70.
Always buy the mask new: smart paintball 101
However, if you're going to buy minimal gear, it will probably take 250-300 right?
There are a ton of options of guns at ~$300-350, just browse b/s/t to get a feel for what stuff costs and what you can get, then do some research(each gun has it's own forum with stickies with a wealth of information) to help you make up your own mind.
And even if you get a crappy gun, you can just trade it for something else.

Head the words in here, they are good ones. 3-500 is a wide open market right now. Filled with past years high ends (ego 7-8 maybe 9, dm 8-9) and newer mid ends (drone dx, etek 3, PM line). Take a few days to really do your homework and you wont be dissapointed in were the guns have gone the past few years.

For $30, it's not bad. But wouldn't pay much more than that for an SLG. Was never impressed with them, and the few people I know that had them were less than impressed with the quality of workmanship.

oh =/ , do you recomend something thats fairly cheap but you know around that, im leaning towards being pretty cheap atm, so dont want to buy an axe for like 500.. not gonna spend that much now, so anything that used to be pretty good but that will sell now for pretty cheap, dm9 etc are still going to be a bit pricy imo.

Honestly, for $30 that's pretty good. I'd buy it if for nothing else but a backup. It's a lot better than the gun I paid $200 for when I started.
It has everything you need.
Like I said, look around b/s/t and the different subforums and try and come up with a list of guns you like and narrow it down.
It's not going to take 30 minutes, if you want to get something you'll be satisfied with and don't want a crap shoot, hoping to get what you want as you buy a gun at random, then you'll need to take some time and look it over, read everything you can.

I would get the mask new as well. I like the Profilers. For a tank I would go with a used Ninja. For a loader maybe a new Halo Too or a used Rotor. For a marker, if you are looking to save some cash look into a used G3 or G4. Some may talk bad about them but they are a great starter marker. And since a new G4 is $300 you should be able to spend no more than $200 for a used one. Other than swapping out the macro fittings (they had slow leaks) my G3 and G4 never gave me issues.
Here is an estimate:
Used G4 - ~$200
Used Rotor - ~$100
New Profiler- ~$70
Used Ninja Tank - ~$100
Total = ~$470

You can get w/e you want.
Personally, I'd get a used halo Too, Reloader B or Halo B
and since you're a smaller guy, I'd grab an invert mini, which should be around 200.

They're not badly priced, and they're smooth and quiet. If properly maintained, they're quite reliable.
They're not overly efficient however, so if that's important to you, look elsewhere. If that doesn't matter, get that, a decent on/off, and if you take care of it, you'll be good.
