My field by me allows any paint if you pay for BYOP. But only for practice. Not open play

I would say that it isn't dead yet but there are so many fields that require you to buy their paint and they do not sell 50 cal rounds. that is what is really killing it. not many people have good fields that they can use the 50 cal guns on. by me, there are only a couple byop fields and all the fields that require you buy paint from them never bothered to buy 50 cal paint to sell.

For a current player to switch to 50 cal, you would end up spending more money for the upgrade then you would save in a year of paintball by switching to 50 cal.

My field paint is 8$ more a case than the cheapest 50 cal paint on ANSgear. I think I'd rather pay an extra 8$ a case for bigger paint, better fills, etc etc.

Some older guns run .50. That's the only reason I got excited. I probably wouldn't put any money into a modern .50 marker.

I think the way it was introduced as The Future Of Paintball offended a lot of players. Not that this could be fun, lighter and cheaper, but this is what it's going to be. How many markers does the average player own. Now tell this person there costly collection is soon to be obsolete. This thread used to be insane. I remember people were afraid of a day they weren't going able to buy .68 caliber paint anymore. Fear lead to hatred, hatred lead to 98% of the people hoping for it to fail. Most manufacturers rushed to design a .50 marker or conversion kit for existing markers in case it did take off. From what I recall some countries have laws against .68 caliber. If that is true I have no problem with markers being made in .50 or .43 cal exclusively for those countries. If it is a better system it would take off in other countries and eventually here. I could totally see someone trying to sell a Rare .50 Eclipse or DM that they had imported from overseas in the b/s/t section.

People keep telling me its cheaper, but everywhere I look the prices are pretty much the same as 68, and god only knows what the quality is like.

I've looked on ANSgear and a 4000 case of formula 13 is basically the same as a normal case of 68

I've always wanted to try it but like others mentioned, none of the "better" fields here offer 50cal and are Field only paint.

I played paintball for 3 years. Loved the woodsball and destroying the speedballers that would decide to play a game or two of woods. BUT, after 3 years and $5000, I had to drop out. Way too expensive.

I now run an airsoft CQB field at cost+ just so the guys around here can play. I could never have done this with paintball. I was able to buy about 20 setups for $2000. I rent out 15bps guns shooting 300fps/350fps/400fps/450fps @ 2/3.5/5/8 respectively. I only charge 10 for 4K. No field fees. If I were running a real field, this would be about double, but still much less than PB.

Now, WHY? Its the paint. PB is far too expensive. Airsoft is growing down in the south, while paintball is dying out. Again, its cost. Co2 is $5-10 a fill down here. I can play 3 weeks on 10 bux. If the PB industry does not find a way to cut cost, it will die out to "cheaper" past times.

If they marketed extremely inexpensive 6-8mm paint to match the 5,000 bb for 10 bux you can get in airsoft, then paintball as a sport would attract alot of new players. Its too cost prohibitive as it stands. If you want to cling to the .68 go ahead, but guys like me will drop out and start "paintsofting".... because... its cheaper. I play airsoft all year for what one PB weekend used to cost me. I play 2-4 times a month + running the field. Gotta say though, teching airsoft guns is way harder..... 0_0.... easier to mod though.

Not to say airsoft is better, or paintball is better. They have there own markets/players, but the "line" between the two is starting to blur-at least down here it is. Many people have started using, mislim markers, old walmart paint and just calling hits, no breaks. This is more airsoft like. And many airsofters-like myself-have adopted a "speedball" approach to the game. Super fast CQB, travel light complete with "breaking" and full auto off the first. I've found that playing "speedball" with airsoft guns has been EXTREMELY popular. Plus my neighbors are happy that if we play at night, they can sleep.

Im currently working with my city to bring in a family friendly PB/airsoft field that will have multiple uses. I've already had good responses. Seems PB has become popular enough to be ok and let airsoft in with it. We may be required to use clear guns, but I dont care, get the kids outside.

I haven't been able to host any PB games due to the paint itself. I dont want it on everything. Neither does the land owner.

Hopefully you realize, I would start paintballing this week, if the price wasnt so insanely expensive. /:
