Electrical tape as tank grip tape

Will it work? Poor crew here so I can't get legit grip tape, however, I'd like to try it out. Think electrical tape will make a good substitute?

I use it on my 13ci tank. Works fine IMO. I first put strips across the bottom/down the side then wrapped around the sides again after so the top looks cleaner. It has lasted since summer with very little wear. Do it right and it will work fine.

Anyway, I've seen it done before with OK results.

IMHO I would use shower tape. They sell it at pretty much any hardware or target(anyplace like that) It's so you don't slip in the shower(just in case you didn't know) Usually comes in different colors. Sticks really well(even when wet) and is kind ruff for the grip you are looking for.

go to wally world and get you some waterproof athletic tape from the pharmacy section. it's cloth tape and should be grippier than electrical tape.

hockey tape. its much better than electrical tape IMO. or you could use the friction tape dome hockey players use. very grippy but it doent have a good adhesive on the other side.

Keep in mind though that with the fiber wrapped cylinders you run the risk of ripping off a layer of the gel coat when you put tape on it and have to remove it. And some fields and tournaments do not allow it.

gel coat?
No, they use epoxy, so it doesn't just "dry" in place like a glue. It is chemically bonded into a solid with the carbon fibers acting as a lattice structure to further reinforce the bonds.

You would need a hammer and chisel to remove even a bit of epoxy.

Or some really bad-*** solvent...i don't think they sell one that strong, though...

No need to split hairs on the coating. The tape can rip the coating off. I'll have to dig up more threads later when I get home.
Took a nice layer right off. Ask Ninja, Guerilla, Or Crossfire if they've seen it as well. I bet you they've had a few tanks come in.

i won't argue with ya on it CAN happen.

i guess the best bet, really would be to forego tape and just get a tank cover.

Not to sounds rude but if you can't afford $10-20 for a tank cover to protect the $160 tank may be in the wrong sport.

Next time you go play instead of buying a full case buy a half. Gives you the $20 right there plus makes you practice accuracy some.

There is virtue and ninja grip tape that was made for the sport. Those are probably the safest bets if you still want to use tape.

I've been using a tank cover all my life, I just wanted to try it out for a few hours, see if I want to invest in grip tape. If not I'll spend it on paint.
