luxes look heavy and complicated. I've never in my life held one so I wouldn't have a clue. Are they light and shoot smooth?

Are you planing to play or just keep it at home. I've shot every gun you can name. I've even taken demo videos of several guns to show some of the differences.
Although I may have a Luxe 2.0 which I love, it shoots as well as my NT11. They both shoot great and basically the same, with the exception the Luxe is about 1.5oz heavier. Both are quiet guns, if there is any in paintball..LOL
I've seen great deals on 1.5 Luxes and NT11 are going very cheap now these days.
If you don't mind the gun to be a bit louder, the the open bolt is an option, for example EGO9-11, GEO2.0+ are also great guns.
You can get your self a good deal on the guns and hopper and not have to spend all your cash. Remember, once you start back up is always the addiction.
I say get a great gun and hopper of the bat, instead of upgrading slowly, you end up loosing way to much upgrading till you get that expensive gun.
Remember you'll need the extra cash for the rest of the Gear...Good Luck and Welcome Back.

Whats the difference between and DM12 and a NT11??
And yeah rotors look like amazing hoppers, I'll definitely be buying one of those!
I plan on this being the gun I take out every weekend and have fun shooting people on the field with Luxes look SHARP, thats for sure. but ive never held one or shot one so, kinda clueless in that department!
How much would you pay for an NT11, and a Luxe 1.5?
And yeah, I remember Egos being very simple and reliable, but never personally owned one. i've always been attracted to them so i'm not opposed to it. Is the GEO 2 a good spool valve gun? or if I'm going spooly, stick with matrix and luxe?
And yeah I agree with you. I want to buy a gun that I don't have to upgrade at all. no triggers or boards or bolts, haha just a solid marker all around that doesn't need anything fancy to make it better than it already is! (But i mean, cosmetically is a different story )
FEELS SO GOOD TO BE BACK! can't wait to get out there next weekend

Luxes are really smooth but in reality you could just get a shocker and it would be almost the same shot.
Since you used a dm6 why not just pick up another dm6? You don't need the latest and greatest to play, nothing has really changed other than price and feel. If you do want newer though I would look at the empire axe, or any dye/proto gun. Those are the best shooters in my opinion. The proto pm7 or 8 are just as good as dye. And the axe is pure sex
Proflexes can still be bought new and are great, dye i3s are my mask of choice though. Old school>new school
Hoppers like the rotor and prophecy z2 are nice but do nothing different than any other loader out there. You pay for the durable shell but if you are sliding right you shouldn't be breaking them anyways
Other then that just get what you like, troll Craigslist, eBay, and here for all you need

I was in the same boat as you a few months ago. I just got back into paintballing and was completely unfamliar with all the new guns out in the past few years.
the NT is a completely different gun. It shares similarties to the Matrix but it was designed to succeed the Matrix but it did not turn out well, and that is why they continue selling the Matrix to this day.
If you want a DYE gun, a M9 is a good choice like many have stated. Try to find one for around 400. I have seen a Bomber DM10 (special edition graphic anno) go for 500 even on ebay. I admit that is on the lower side, but it does give you an indication what the real value of Matrices are.
I fell for the NT trap a few months ago. Some of them work, lots of them don't. Expect 600-700 for an NT11, and 750+ for a Luxe 1.5.
A Geo is a spool valve. I highly recommend a Geo 2, but you really can't go wrong with most guns out on the market today. Even poppet guns are getting to the point where they are nearly as smooth as a spool valve (Try the Bob Long G6R Intimidator!).
I'm glad your getting back into pb.

Are you insistent on a new gun? Because guns haven't really changed very much performance wise since 2006, they have just gotten lighter.
The DM8 is the same shape as the DM6, they just maxed the matrix at that point, since then they made it lighter, however not MUCH has changed.

First off you probably want to get some gear since it's been a couple years and in those couple years the technology has changed a lot in everything from markers to pants. You should pick up some new pants and a jersey. You should probably upgrade your mask as well since they have changed quite a lot since 2006. For your tank, even if you bought it in 2006 it's over its 5 year hydro. you should go get it checked at any scuba diving store or some paintball stores do it. For a hopper you should either get a new rotor or a Z2. I personally love the z2. the rotors were jamming on me, but the z2s aren't as durable and the speed feeds tend to open when you dive really hard. Your probably looking at around $700 left. In that range i would either get something like a new axe with a boss bolt V2 or if you want to go used you can get a used g6r for about $600-$700. hope that helped !

Thanks for the input! Yeah I've seen the G6r and it definitely interests me! And the GEO 2 looks SO good! Does it have a lot of o-rings on it like the matrixes do? And thank you for giving me a good price range for those guns, so I don't over pay

Right now what has my attention are DM9, DM11, Luxe 1.5, and the GEO 2. I've never heard of a Demon before? whats your opinion on G6r?

Go bob long dude. I've owned ego11 g6r luxe clone victory geo2 and IMHO the bob long guns are amazing. They are fairly simple to maintain and pretty easy to tune. I've never had a problem that couldn't be fixed in 5 minuets. Buying it new is probably even better once you break it in cause everything will be in good condition. These markers are pretty lite, EXTREMELY SMOOTH AND EXTREMELY EFFICIENT. People complain about the maitence and tuning but trust me it's as simple as your dm6 and your shot quality will be above par with top notch efficiency. Not to mention bob long service has always been exceptional to me
