Project SSTO (Super STO)
This project started off unlike many of the others Ive started, All started one day browsing AO's sale area. Rightfeed cocker with reflex kit, Hmm always wanted to try one of those. It was cheap enough. Wasnt looking for another gun or project. Wife bought it for me.
As I recieved it after removing the huge reddot site.
Got it up and running, Swapped the HPR & 3way to Palmer Parts, At the same time swapped in a shocktech valve & a AKA LPC. Still one thing bugged me. I hate rightfeed. Dont know why just do.
So what to do. Find a centerfeed body But what would look right, Browse MCB for awhile. Pre2K centerfeed isnt common & is expensive. Complete 98 STO, not much more then I wanted to spend but its original, unmolested & in really great shape. Always can sell off the unused parts later.
Took both guns apart, made one, The SSTO. Part of this step was swaping a Palmer LPR onto the frontblock, Adding Qev's & swapping a AKA bolt as well as making sure I can still use the reflex bolt. And got a freak bored lapco that matchs the guns ano.
This is what came out of the effort
The gun is a bunch of hoses, tubes, rods & stuff. What I consider the ulimate tinkerers autococker, Its very difficult to time with the qev's but its fast as hell for a mech autococker.
Before people start saying poor Sto, that a gun that original shouldnt have come apart. You will be glad to know I sold most of the original parts to a member that is restoring a 98 STO that all those parts were missing from. They went to the best home they could. I kept the backblock, bolt & frontblock.
I know the standard backblock looks alittle odd, There are 2 reasons for it.
1) I wanted to be able to use the reflex bolt or the aka bolt. Reflex bolts didnt come in STO length that I know of.
2) To make the STO backblock work I have to drill the hole that the pumprod thread into. I have to make it so the rod will thread thru. Right now its a blind hole. I will not cut the rod on the reflex kit. Ill get to working on the sto backblock someday.
