How/where you get them is at the site already listed by those above me

why? because many tournaments use it to keep track of rankings (mostly national or regional tournaments). it keeps a record of all the tournaments you play (or at least those that utilize the APPA system, which are pretty much all the major tournament series). it prevents ppl from sandbagging.

not even big tournaments even most local or young guns tournaments (its for the people who run the tournaments, if they say you cant have played on a d2 or higher because your playing in a d3 tournament they will check your appa account and make sure you haven't played d2)

but if you dont have APPA then your not ranked that high anyways hah. point being, DO NOT waste your time getting registered unless a tournament your playing requires it. if you play PSP, USPL, XPSL, NEPL, CFOA, etc... then you will need to. most of the time when you sign up for rookie tournys, they check to see if you are registered, and then wat kind of events youve played. if youve played too many or too competitive (d3 and up usually) then they will prolly disqualify you. if you dont even have an appa number, they know your unranked.

like i said before, i have played young guns and local d5 tournaments that require appa numbers that prove you havent played higher than d3
