My Airman's coin and POW coin mean more to me than all the others. I got to spend the day with a great man who sacrificed so much during WWII. I felt very honored to be his escort for the day. Every Veteran's Day, Memorial Day and POW/MIA Day, I take the time to either visit memorials, or volunteer. It was something that was instilled in me when I was growing up.

I got one last week from the USFK SGM. He came on sight our platoon sergeant was like "uhmm..everyone, full battle and go train hard as ****" Essentially, it was me and two other guys turn to run through it while he was right there. We did a piss poor job, but he came over and was like "It looked good, but I'm infantry so I have no clue how you did. For giving me the opportunity to watch, I'd like to present you with a coin"
I was like ......i'm going to get ****ed up by my PSG.

So SGM of the army comes to visit, one of my friends goes to the gym or whatever to go see him. For some reason she speaks, explains shes pregnant, husband in afghanistan, does a bunch of random army duties that are stupid but necessary, and is a SPC(P).
SGM of the army is like "give her a coin"
This is what challenge coins have been downgraded to. While I still maintain that some are worthwhile (not sure any of mine are, my dad has some from the SAS and FFL) but this is bull****.
She is a great soldier, and does the job of someone higher ranking. But this **** is basic army stuff, making sure people have rides in TMP's to work is her only obligation.
Not hating, a good friend, but a very clear realization that 98% of coins are ****.

i have my airborne coin
i had to buy mine.
it's all i need or want or care to carry.
when you get out of my old regiment, they'd give you a big ****ing like eight inch wide coin with your TOS on it.
i can't ****ing carry it, should of thrown it in the garbage. i keep it there to give to my kids i guess i dunno
