The W58 was never meant for performance and they have even failed under just rolling on the throttle on stock JDM 2J's. You might as well shoot for 550rwhp with one attached to a 7M with the factory composite head gasket if you love weak links. Point being, a gamble is still a gamble no matter how you slice it.
I wasn't saying it was a good idea, just that it could be done. The transmission was never made for that kind of performance, I'm not arguing that. I was just saying that if his interest is limited to bolt-ons up until the time he can afford more aggressive mods, the w55 should be fine, in addition to a bit smoother to drive.

You're gonna have to try harder than that.

My unanswered question for Ret or Cuban, would I be able to replace the front crank seal my just removing the pulley?

It'll take 1 to 1.5 hours with the engine in the car. First drain your coolant, remove the radiator, and remove the 3 accessory belts. Have the e-brake pulled and someone hold down the brakes while in gear to break loose the 195lb-ft torqued crank bolt. I used a 3-arm puller to remove the crank pulley and timing gear. Remove the crank pulley, 90* coolant neck, then remove the outer timing covers. Remove your timing belt, then remove the timing gear. Now you're ready to replace the FMS. I can't remember but I think the lower timing cover behind the crank pulley shares a stud with the A/C bracket to help you hate your life some more.

After you replace it, set your timing to 0* and follow the process in reverse.

I'll do this before I ship out when I quit my job, that way I won't have anywhere to go.

I've done that whole process before and it isn't terrible, I was just hoping it would be less time consuming.
