Arrow Should NPPL Get RID OF The DC Challenge and Find A New Venue? Share!

Hey Guys,

Should NPPL Get RID OF The DC Challenge and Find A New Venue?

My personal opinion is that DC is just not working out for the NPPL, and it is time for a change. I understand that Mike Peverill owns the field and that in turn makes the event very low cost for the NPPL but the DC venue hardly draws any teams (60 - 70 MAX) and for a national event that is a shame. I believe a more attractive venue for example Miami, New York, Boston, New Orleans, San Diego.... would draw many more teams and spectators.

Share your thoughts!

It is a good event for them profit wise I think, they dont really spend any money on it at least, anything that is 'cool' at DC comes out of Pev's pocket to attract outside people to the sport (some local advertisement, maybe a band or childeren's play attraction) So any money they make that event might actually be more than you'd think considering the turnout compared to overhead cost

Edit: How about we wait and see what happens with Vancouver. Unless there is a great turnout, consider jumping that event around. HB and Vegas are 'close to home' for the nppl so the cost is good for them, with chi and dc you have two good field owners helping keep the cost way down. even vancouver is only a day drive away for the trucks and I bet that they have some stuff from the bcppl already up their saving more cost. You just gotta think about the books is all, san diego could be good but not with HB already in the picture and boston is really far away unless we have a great field or really cheap space

*heard OBXNY could support an nppl but I havn't been there yet. Thats right in long island and for the north east its like 4 hours max, little less maybe the same for all the PA/DC teams

The DC area is full of 5man teams, the race-to format will definitely attract more local teams. I personally like having the DC event and I know it makes things easier for Pev to coordinate. The venue can host a ton of fields, it is just a matter of getting teams there. Most of the NPPL refs live within 30 mins of Pev's also.

The NPPL is trying to grow paintball in the DC area, so they are going to do everything in their power to keep the event.

DC lost many teams this year due to scheduling. With the median age getting younger and younger, school becomes a main factor. The fact that DC was the during the time guys were going back to school really put a dent on many teams. In addition, there were a couple of east coast events that were rescheduled to the same weekend as DC due to the Hurricane we had at the end of August.

I think with the way the schedule is this year (few weeks before school) and pending no major hurricanes, we should see a big increase this year.

All in all, it is a great venue and I think the vendors need to do there part to attract the spectators.

Like I said, thats really really far to travel and set up an event. What full size tournament field is in miami with 3-4 fields, tons of parking and legit enough for a national event (flat nice fields, legit shop ect)?

not saying it can't happen but I don't know any fields in miami, your from the area, any real ideas? Can't just say 'nppl drive out here with mad trucks and rent the orange bowl stadium'

vegas is rediculously expensive for the league, but it attracts alot of teams and it is verry close to home for the nppl making it a bit cheaper/easier

Miami is awesome (born there) but it won't attract people like vegas and it def wont be as cheap as a 5-6 hour drive from so cal for them

i dont think it's as expensive as people might think. in fact i heard a rumor, and bear in mind it may be completely false, that vegas pays to host the nppl there due to its draw of people. could be wrong, but i can definitely see vegas doing something like this.

Having an event a month or so after college/high school starts is gonna be rough.

Paintball in the DC area isn't what it used to be either, 5 years ago it would be much bigger with a ton of local teams coming out. Paintball in Dc is either NPPL or PSP, rarely both. Thats the huge issue we ran into with last season.

The field is great to play on and its not in the middle of some field out in nowhere. I'm all for trying new things however. See how Vancouver goes.

I don't see why they would, considering on any given weekend, there's millions of people going to Vegas. Interesting rumor, regardless.
