Hey guys, Ive got a bit of an update. Myself along with a couple other guys wanted to try a body window similar to the old school aardvark matrixs. They have a clear spacer as part of the bolt kit so you can see the bolt moving back and forth. SO, heres what I did this afternoon

Heres the body mounted to an aluminum plate, then bolted to the spoil board. I just used the grip frame bolt holes to mount it down. I had to use a dial indicator to square up the body, but I dont have pics of that:

I dont have any "in progress" pics, you couldnt really see anything. Here are the pics immediately after taking it off the board, no cleanup whatsoever. You can see a tiny bit of slag on the right edge here. I hit it very lightly with a file, it came right off:

The top edge came out VERY nice:

View from the top, sorry for the glare/crappy pic, ill try to take better ones tomorrow:

Live tube side. The top looks like it has some funky lines on it, but its just the light hitting it weird. It looks a lot better in person:

I (obviously) used the same body with the ironman milling since it was scrap, but this was a surprisingly easy file to run, and didnt take that long. Im really happy with the way it came out, the edges dont require very much touchup after the fact. Im already working on cutting the clear spacers. I have the tubing and the o rings, but havent gotten to them yet. Stay tuned, Ill be sure to post progress on those too.

Can you add another bar, like on the sunrises? It helps the lexan last longer, unless your going to use thicker material, it might be an issue with longevity. I remember reading this back in the day, seriously.

lol, just had a "...what?" moment. I honestly had no idea that there was a backside bar to the windows. I just thought there were 2 different versions of windows. Doh! Dye 53 sent me window dimensions, and must not have put the bar in :/

To answer your question, yes I can put another bar in there. However, this means I would have to use 2 operations. The above that I just did, I had it mounted and did 1 cutting program. I could do this program, then turn it on its side and cut the other window. Doesnt mean I cant do it, just explaining the process . I read in an earlier thread Here, that the spacer is about 0.117" I havent made one yet to confirm the thickness, but the tube I have has a 0.125" wall and must be shaved down just a hair to fit inside the body; SO, it will probably be about the same thickness. Was there an issue with blowouts or warping in the spacers Mario?

Dang, I learn something new every day!

This is some really awesome stuff. I'm going to be picking up a mill and lathe soon (for none paintball reasons) and I might have to try some stuff like this whence my spare time.

When it comes to PB stuff, you would be amazed at what all you can do on a lathe. I have a small benchtop one, 9x20 I think, and i really dont need much bigger than that

Dang, just read your username, Lurker. I really do appreciate it, Ive seen what you do, so it means a lot when you say you like it!

Also, did this "test" earlier today on my polycarb tubing. I know, I know, its a crush test, and the tubing will be subject to internal pressure, so its not under the operating conditions. Its not a scientific test that yields numerical results, I just did it to show how tough the stuff is. Here is the crush test video:

I crushed it one way, flipped it on the other axis, then crushed it again, etc.

Here is a picture of it crushed all the way together:

No cracks at this point. This stuff is tough! At this extreme bending, it doesnt bend back to its original shape, but if you were to bend it lightly, it will definitely spring back to normal. You would have to smush it pretty hard for it to deform permanently.

Here is the final result of the "testing":

It has a severe crack/break in the side. This is, however, a fatigue crack. I bent it twice, on different axes, without cracking. It then broke on the third crush. Ever bend a paperclip back and forth several times and it breaks? Same principle. The tubing got bent back and forth too much and it fatigued. When these are in guns, they shouldnt see near this much abuse! Hope you enjoy

Sweet I would be intreasted in seeing how much psi it can take before failing and leaving it under operating pressure for a few weeks to see if it holds up

I work in with eyeglass lenses, and polycarbonate lenses are amazingly strong. I have done this test tons of times, and it is crazy how well they hold up.

Yeah, i was really surprised. I had my safety glasses on and just waiting for it to explode sending bits of polycarb into my face, but it never did. It just doubled over itself and bent without breaking.

Mario - What? Timex? lol

Ill try to go ahead and run them on my lathe, Ive been working on a rotating jig that will let me cut the spacers on my cnc machine instead of having to turn them all on the lathe. Ill at least go ahead and make one or 2 for you tagg since youre ready.
