Operatives had a huge advantage and were recently nerfed. Now everyone has a high valor Operative but they aren't nearly as great in melee so they switched to healing which they do well at. A sorc can do an obscene amount of damage while having several PVP-friendly tools at their disposal. Other classes are competitive and in open-world PVP are actually probably better.
Back from Vacation, but now at work. Only work tonight/tomorrow night, though, and then 4 days off. So I'll be playing a lot on my Sorcerer (when not knocking out my PVP Daily/Weekly on my Jedi Sentinel).
I've been busy with work and spending my free time designing and building a workbench for the garage for the last week or two. Hope to get some time to jump on tomorrow night, after wooing the wifey tonight.
Cars, Technology, and Stogies ... All the fine things in life.

It doesn't have expertise but it will probably be better than any green gear you get until mid-40's. I thought it was worth it. I think having 1000 merc and warzone commendations plus a champion gear bag when you hit 50 is more important though. That is 4800 warzone commendations.
4800 warzone commendations is a lot. It will get you 6 champion gear bags when you roll over to 50. You can get 2 champion bags everyday and another 6 every week from missions. You also will probably get another champion bag for 800 warzone commendation completing you weekly PVP warzone quest. I could see why someone would rather hit 50 than farming warzone commendations so keep that in mind. I hit 50 on Sunday night, completed my weeklies on Monday, and then completed my weeklies again today. Those first 6 bags are helpful but you can't certainly get by without them assuming you have decent gear (lvl 48 or above I'd say) when you hit 50.
Remember there is also PVE gear which has better stats but is lacking expertise. If you don't plan on PVP'ing much, just get to 50.
I enjoy Ilum more and more every day. It is fun luring out 15-20 repubs and then steamrolling them for the next hour with an Ops group of 24. You have to be careful as they can be *****es if you take the point next to their base. They'll start camping next to their cannon. It is kind of funny if they can't even hold that though...
