i know people complain about the weight of the freak kits, but honestly when i shot a mini i found the added weight to be a bonus. helped reduce muzzle jump so much and made long shots easier to place.

People who complain about the weight of a gun need to go to the gym more and stop being little girls.

Right, underboring is best. I didn't mean to suggest that you should bore match as it has been understood to date, but rather that getting the right combination of paint size and barrel is important and can only be done correctly with a barrel kit.

When I say bore match, I'm usually thinking of an approximately .005-.007 underbore, not the breath stuff that people had been doing for years.

Hey Fish, did they change the "boremaster" kit to include .679? If I recall correctly the old ones only went down to .682.

There's a reason why Dye and Smart Parts made the most popular barrels ever sold. They're both damn good. Anyone who disagrees eats peanut butter with a straw.

Yeah, the old ones went from .682 to .697. IMO that's a nice change, although it wouldn't hurt to start at .675 and go to .691.

I have like 3 Redz kits in my room right now. They're REALLY good barrels for the money. Kind of loud compared to my CF boomstick but they shoot straight and you get good bore and tip sizes

I'm on the SP Hater bandwagon with you, but for somewhat different reasons. But even being on that bandwagon I still recognize that SP made a damn good barrel. They should have kept on making barrels like they did in the old days, instead of trying to monopolize marker manufacturing like they were trying to. Had they kept making barrels and other accessories I think the sport would have been better off. Karma is a ***** and they found that out the hard way. But your hate for everything SP is just going to give Karma a chance to catch up to you. The results in your link aren't even that great. They show a variance of .004 at the worst with stainless and .002 with aluminum. Given that most people bought an entire kit rather than a couple bores, chances are good that most people in the hay-day of the Freak kit would have been able to find a suitable bore in their kit for however they wanted to bore size. Keep hating, sometimes it's good for a laugh.

By data you can have a smaller insert that is actually larger then the one labeled to be bigger then it . So when eying paint you would choose te smaller one but not notice because the balls have a variance . Hating smart parts due to their ethical decisions has nothing to do with it, they have ****ty manufacturing practices which leads to ****ty products . I'm not a fan of a poor performing barrel that is overweight .

On the contrary there is videos that were on the discovery channel I believe of CP or custom products manufacturing , and it's true shoot a .689 two piece cp barrel for a game and then use a freak and you will know the difference . Like Tom Kaye says quality shoots straight

A lot of people who have been in the sport for a long time disagree, and this is just out of people in this thread.

A lot of us have shot everything under the sun and still use freak kits. They're good barrels that have withstood the test of time, regardless of the number stamped on the outside of the insert. You're arguing against reality.

To be completely forthcoming, I refused to shoot Smart Parts until a couple years ago because I disagreed with they way they conducted themselves. I used to shoot 'cockers and Egos. But there is no arguing that they made a good product for the money. Now that they've been neutered, there's really no reason to keep up the hate. And as for weight - a Stainless Steel barrel kit isn't targeted at you if you're worried about that.

took a pair of verniers from my machine shop and a .689ss insert. One side read .689 the other side was .687. Only had one insert to test it on though. As for the choice of SS over aluminum. Aluminum will expand in the heat and contrast in the cold. SS is harder to machine and hold tighter tolerances but isnt as effected by temp. and wont wear out as fast as aluminum. There are pros and cons to both

Tom Kaye also said for a ball to fully accelerate to its best potential, the bore should be 8-10". The Ifit you love so much only has a controlled bore of 1.75", not even half of the minimum needed to accelerate the ball to its potential. I'll take my overweight under performing barrel over TechT's hype any day of the week.

Not really, but he did recommend bore matching paint, found here:
