New to Iowa City
Hey guys, I'm a grad student currently in Minnesota but there's a very strong chance (like 90% or more) that I'll be in Iowa City soon at the University of Iowa to finish up my PhD. Are there any good places to play near that area? I play pump. Any pumpers there at all?

The closest field is Velocity Paintball in West Liberty, but there is also Adventure Paintball in cedar rapids. I've only been to Velocity so I can't really speak for action Jack's, but Velocity has airball, hyperball and woodsball 1st and 3rd sundays of every month, but they don't always set up the airball. Adventure has both indoor and outdoor fields so you can play there during the winter if you want. I'm not too sure about the pump situation though...I haven't seen any around here, but I haven't been looking either.

Archery Field in Des Moines is only about 2 hours away from you. If you're a pump player, I know that there are also a few other pump guys in the Des Moines area.

Cool. Thanks guys. I looked at Velocity and Adventure in Cedar Rapids. I may venture out to Des Moines to play at some point, we'll see. I don't mind playing with semis at all, I just figured I'd toss in the pump play to see if anyone in the area was big into it themselves.

We are building a new rec field at Archery. Its got some pretty sweet mounds on it and Brad has been working hard to get some buildings on it as well. Should be open here shortly.
Also, Action Jacks in Newton has a few regular pump players. Seems like they come out on Sundays more than Saturdays

exlcusive pump play is not going to happen, but you will have a reasonably good time at velocity.

I am looking very seriously into starting a university of iowa paintball team. according to the NCPL rule book, grad students are allowed to be on the team, would you be interested?

There are a few of us who play at Velocity who bust out the pumps on a regular basis. Good luck starting the club back up. We had one going for about 2 years but most graduated. We were never able to get full university support. If you have questions let me know.

Ah are you andrew beer, the guy who led the last one? I'm aware that people have been trying to do it and failing but persistence is key. I think the main thing that would make or break it is if we get our own field. its a long shot but not impossible. ISU has their own and it makes it so much more feasible. the university has plenty of open land that could fit a speedball field or 2. I also plan to contact other teams and ask about how they run things. A few schools for you that have teams....
- ISU
- Indiana University
- Northern Illinois University
- Northwestern University
- University of Missouri
And there's way more just in the midwest... we are a big ten school and I see no reason why we shouldn't have a team.

Here's a good outline of where to get started. It may take a lot of work, but don't get discouraged. College paintball was an amazing experience that I wouldn't trade for anything.

Thank you very much, this was very helpful. It looks like it will be a lot of work but my desire to play paintball is stronger than my willingness to give up

Good to hear. There's a college paintball forum on here. You might be able to ask questions there as well.
