Weather causes gun problems?

I didnt know where to put this thread, but this seems like it would be the best suited for it, due to the fact that im asking about all guns.

My question is, can weather(MAINLY temperature) cause gun problems?

Because currently one of my guns is leaking, and it was perfectly fine before winter hit. It leaks whenever i air it up and shoot, but when the gun heats up, it doesnt leak. I brought it out Dec 31st and it leaked. Halfway through the day, the leak was gone. I brought it home and cleaned/lubed it, and the leak came back.
And no its nothing wrong with the axe itself, ive re oringed it, used 3 different kinds of grease(dow33, stock axe greese, and lurker lube), changed the check valve, EVERYTHING. but nothing stops this leak.

Like, could it b something with orings expanding or contracting? Grease thickening?

Please explain if u have experienced the same or a similar problem and what u did to solve it, if u did.

What is the weather like? I see your in CAL so I'm assuming it's nothing like MN, and if your "winter" is like 60° then it's not the weather, but if it's -20° outside, then it might cause some problems.

Weather is anywhere from 30-60 at the times it does leak. But when I brought it to the field and halfway it stopped leaking, it was like 50-55.

But back when it was 80 no leaks.

When it's super cold, Orings shrink.

I would normally aid that with a couple Xrings in the right spot, but if you don't have that, what works for me with those guns is mixing some synthetic/dow33 grease with oil and use a little bit more than you normally would. And use that on all the parts in the engine.

Shoot it a little bit to get everything evenly covered if you can and see what's up.

It could also be because the solenoid sticks. A few friends always had that issue in the winter.

Not solenoid, I serviced that too. But I'll try that oil/grease mixture.

Temperature and humidity both affect performance. Pretty much every marker uses o-rings to seal the firing assembly and those are subject to shrinking/expansion. Shrink too much and your marker leaks, expand too much and your marker doesn't cycle correctly. Usually a change in lubricants will counteract the cold.

I've used 3

Regular dow33, lurker lube, and the stock axe lube

I can't remember what lurker/stock lubes are based on but know that several companies re-brand Dow 33 and there's a chance the only thing you've changed so far is the color.

I know last year, my Alias was leaking horribly during the rainy season. It would start the day off fine, but start leaking after a couple hours. The next day it wouldn't leak at all. As stated above, the o rings can shrink in the cold, and you may want to see if you have water inside it.

PS: I play at the same field as OP, I just wanted to help confirm to him that our weather can be bad enough for gun issues.

so lets say it is an oring problem.

could putting dow55 on them solve that?
because if it is the orings shrinking, dow 55 makes orings swell. so it would counterbalance, yes?

i mean, it sounds plausible in thought, but i dont have any dow55 on me to test. Any ideas?

And yeah, its kinda pouring right now. i guess saturday was the only day out of the expected "terrential downpours" that was wrong.

the problem with using dow 55 would be that if it is getting warm enough to make the oring swell in the afternoon they will keep swelling in the afternoon. they will continue to swell as they do now and in the afternoon it will cause bolt stick and if it swells too much it is going to wear those orings excessively.

the answer to your original question is yes the weather affects performance. If you would like to fix your axe now you should ask in the empire forum. it may be a known problem and someone might be able to tell you exactly how to fix it.

anything under 55 degrees CAN (and often does) cause issues.

I've actually searched the empire forum and seen one other case of the same issue with an axe. The solution was heat, which I have yet to try.

But I'm asking for all guns due to the fact that my trilly pump also started having issues once the winter hit.

Yes, temperature can cause a multitude of problems, anywhere from oring tolerance differences to lubricant viscosity changes resulting in oring leaks, bolt stick, and even battery discharge among other things.

what do you mean the the solution was heat? also that trilogy pump should not be having issues caused by weather unless the conditions are extreme. it is probably the most basic gun design out there. what issues is it having?

the guy left it in the car all day. And since heat builds up in a car... heat fixed it.

And it leaked cuz the valve, no matter what. i even used 2 different valves. i took it to a tech and he got it working tho.

I acutually played on MLK day and it was in the low teens to mid 20's that day and had no issues with my AXE. The paint on the other hand is a different story.

If the Empire forums didn't help then I would get in touch with Kee(I believe that's the name) the company that handles Empire's warranty.

yeah, idk whats happenin with the thing. but its w/e. ill take it as an experimental gun and test around with it if i dont get it sold.

and Kee doesnt just handle empires warranty, they own empire. kinda like how Dye owns proto, and empire also owns JT and invert. And now Tippman owns rights to Angel products.

and no, its not a GIANT leak, its actually very minor. I can still shoot 280 +-4.

Not trying to advertise, but I've been using monkeypoo and it seems to work in pretty much any condition (provided you're using a thin coating...put too much on and it'll gum up in the cold)

28* this past sunday, Macdev clone was sitting in the car all night. Got to the field and dry fired two shots. After that, chrono'd to (269, 270, 273, 272, 274) (280 limit)

75* late summer, Same clone. chrono'd (278, 276, 276, 278, 272) (300 limit, but I dropped to 280 because there were a TON of rentals that day)

That's consistent enough for me, and I don't have to play around with mixing lubes like I usually do for the luxe
