What is the general consensus of attendees regarding accommodations, stay in the conference center rooms or offsite??

Staying at Conference Center

At past events most attendees stay at the location housing. Nice to be able to go up to room for a break during the day and can walk to room after a long night "talking" with others in the industry in the evening.

Watch for details of the Tuesday night welcome party at the on-site sports bar. Charity poker tournament, sound's like Pev might be running a "paintball" trivia contest and a couple of free drinks compliments of Visit Loudoun.

If you don't want to eat dinner on site there will be free shuttle service to some area restaraunts for people staying at the Conference Center.

The rooms R not that affordable on site. It’s a bit confusing looking @ reservations ONE PER ROOM???? That’s crazy a stay for 2 is out of my price range. Times are tight economy sucks I’m going to the Holiday Inn its more than half off... Just sayin..... Staying on site would be nice but cost tooooooo much...... Planning on going but $$$$$ talks....

How much are the on-site rooms? And the ones at the Holiday Inn?

How far away is the Holiday Inn?

Based on the need for two people in two separate beds....

On-site - $217.80/night (2 rooms due to 1 occupant per room requirement; taxes included)

Holiday Inn - $104/night (taxes included)

Holiday Inn is 3 miles from conference center.

The single bed rooms are a big turn off. Trying to decide what will work best for me.

You know, I took a closer look at that place and realized it looked familiar. It used to be Xerox's training center. That explains the single occupancy.

I was a Xerox employee and went there for new hire training.

Assuming the rooms are the same, they're not really big enough for more than one person. The rooms were arranged in pods of six or so with a common area in the middle. The reasoning behind the design was because Xerox wanted you to get out there and mingle with everyone else. They didn't want you in your room.

The facility itself was really nice when I went there. It had a cafeteria for meals and a bar where everyone gathered after classes. The classrooms would be ideal for such an event.

Conference Center

Chris;

You are correct, this was originally a Zerox training center. It was sold and new owners completly renovated living areas. NO shared baths, each room has a private bath. The rooms are not huge but are furnished better than most hotels.

I have had all 3 meals at the facility a couple times and it is better than any hotel restaurant and you have many choices of what to have and can have all you want!

This is a very unique facility and after visiting many others from the Mississippi East it was the best deal out there. People have to understand that there are not many hotels with the amount of meeting space required for a tradeshow type activity.

Glad to hear they did away with the shared bathrooms.

I did some more research on the facility and saw that Aramark now owns it, but Xerox still uses it. As far as I can remember, Aramark has always managed the facility. Xerox wanted to showcase the very best there, so they contracted with the best vendors they could find. The food was phenomenal!

I actullay spoke with Rick at length about this and I am keeping in mind Chris' point about the rooms. Like Chris, I have stayed at this and other government campuses. And you can't compare the holiday Inn buffet to the breakfast at the conf ctr. If you Assume meals are valued at 10/15/20 per person - per day(PPD) and that Bkfst and Lunch are included at the conf ctr. Staying at the holiday inn costs $94.50 PPD. A two bed suite at the conference center would cost 109.50 PPD and TWO rooms at the conference center would cost $119 PPD. So a suite costs an extra 15 ppd and two rooms cost and extra 24.50 ppd. You have to consider, unless driving, the shuttle is a limiting and restricting factor. The Conf Ctr is a Campus, with shops, excercise facilities, etc. If, as is the popular place at most paintball events, you spend time at the bar, there is no question that staying on-site is the play as the cab fair will destroy any potential cost savings. The bar at the conf ctr is quite large and quite impressive.
I remember the Feb 2009 bar at the Atlanta event and I said then that, that element of the paintball industry has been missing since the early 90's at the Amateur Open. I think Rick has now found the perfect venue to replicate that feeling we all got when everyone in attendance had a stake in the future of paintball. We weren't just players, we weren't just manufacturers - we believed in and we believed that we WERE PaintBall.

Yes, the bar is quite impressive. That bar still holds the record of best tap beer for me.
