Playing the beta has convinced me that Piranha deserves my money. That was a great marketing technique to "accidentally" give me access to closed beta. Well played, Piranha, well played.

Whoever has closed beta should post up their info so we can start playing together.

System requirements?

I've been playing Starcraft 2 on my Macbook, running windows XP. Think it can handle it?

Can't say, but doubtful. It's free to play, so you could sign up for the beta or wait til release and you won't be out anything if it won't run.

XP shouldn't be a problem. I don't think they have even implemented DirectX 11 yet. Last I played it was only DirectX 9, and there were people on the forums with XP that were playing in the beta.

The Macbook on the other hand...

Started playing more of this lately. Add me, my S/N is BadSkut.

Oh, and what do people like for mechs? I'm getting really attached to the Hunchback. They just take a beating and keep going. Just played a match where most of my mech was in the red and I was still getting kills.

Centurion and atlas have been my most successful mechs.

atlas has gauss, 2 erppcs, large pulse laser, 2 AMS, max armor 30 kph

just pick people apart from range and not have to worry about lrms

i'm not a fan of the longball. I like to duke it out up close. LRM usually aren't too much of a problem as long as I keep cover between me and the bigger guys and chase away any pesky lights. I usually use the terrain to flank the Cats and get in close enough they can't fire LRMs, then I pick them apart with my Autocannon and medium lasers. I usually run from Atlases in a one on one fight, but I can sometimes still do a decent amount of damage to one if they are bad enough.

I also just like running harassment now that they have added points for damage and kill assists. I'll just stick close to our heavier mechs and deal damage while while they draw the attention.

I've tried using the Atlas but I'm just bad at it. I don't like the lack of maneuverability.

ive gotten pwned more than once by light mechs while in an atlas

they did a good job of balancing the maneuverability and armor

I've been using either a dragon, k2 or founders atlas. I have a hunchy and a cent, but I don't like the feel of them. The hunchy seems to just scream blow me to bits, no matter what other mechs are around. The centy is like my dragon, but less powerful. I like the speed, maneuverability and overall punch I can pack with the dragon, I use it as my main flank and harass from behind mech. K2 is the standard erppc sniper and my atlas is pure brawler with dual lbxac10s.

Hunchback is better in a pack or one on one. I have to high tail it if I start to get surrounded. You also really have to make sure you protect your right side. Guys who know what they are doing will take out your Autocannon first thing and make you all but useless. But I like it. I haven't gotten much time with the dragon. I might sell my Cat and try it out instead.

Also, it took me awhile of fighting nostalgia, but I've decided using mouse and keyboard is just better, especially now that your arm weapons can be aimed independently of the chest weapons. It's just more precise. Actually the best setup I've found is a joystick in place of the keyboard and mouse for aiming, but my joystick is setup for right-handers so using it in the left is just too awkward to be used regularly.

Can't get on tonight, though. My computer decided to take a ****, and I gotta figure out why it is so ****ty.

Yea, I'm actually surprised that it is better than a joystick setup.

The dragon is similar to the hunchy in that you have to protect a certain limb, the right arm, if you plan on putting a gauss cannon or other important ballistic on there.

3:30 AM and I'm just now getting my PC back to where it was. Guess I'll play tomorrow. On a side note, I got an invite to the Hawken Alpha today.

Main gripe with this game is the lack of "Reactor: Online, Sensors: Online, Weapons: Online, All Systems Nominal"
