Dye UL Fronts/Tips

Since no one could help me out on my last thread, I went out and got both! My question was, "Has anyone tried the stiffi or deadlywind tip for the Dye Ultralite?" Just in case anyone else was wondering, here's what I've found out thus far.

Tried to capture the porting in the pic

I haven't run paint through these yet but, the deadlywind is longer than both the stiffi and dye, as well as lighter than both. The stiffi is the shortest, and slightly heavier than the dw.

I'll do a shooting comparison of all 3 this weekend for accuracy, and sound signature, then update this thread.

Is that a white CF tip, or just the flash?

It's just the flash, same finish as the standard deadlywind. No gloss but super smooth. The Stiffi has a gloss, shiny finish, but it feels like crap it feels lumpy and just unfinished. Not really impressed, especially since it was about $20 more than the dw.

Are you referring to their stock matte grey color? I dont see any color options on the DW site like I do on the Stiffi site.

Could've sworn I have seen a white/grey dw tip/barrel. But I guess I am mixing them with other cf companies. My bad.

Stiffi makes colored mamba tips but none in white. That appears to be a stock DW tip. I have used the stiffi tip on a UL a while back and it was nice. I am sure the deadlywind is compareable. I have considered putting one on my Dye CF Boomstick but thought it might look ugly against the CF boomstick back.

It is .84 ounces lighter than the stock CF boomstick tip (UL tip is maybe just very very very slightly heavier). Just weighed my CF Boomstick at 4.9 ounces total; 2 ounces even for the tip and 2.9 ounces for the back.

Deadlywind whip tip at 14 inches is 33 grams
Stiffi tip is 38 grams

Do any of the tips match the back of the CF Boomstick?

Neither one of the tips match the CF Boomstick unfortunately. The Stiffi is closer than the DW but both are prety far off.

He's spot on, the "Black Mamba" Stiffi is close, but honestly doesn't look good at all. Stick with the Dye aluminum tips with the Boomers

Update

So, I got to try both this past weekend and they're about the same in sound and accuracy. The better bang for the buck is the DW, it's $20 cheaper, I like the feel and finish a lot more than the stiffi, and it's lighter. Both of them were very quiet, and squeege'd well, but didn't see a vast improvement over a stock Dye tip. Honestly, all 3 are very well made, shoot and clean well, and are very quiet. If you want to stand out, go for the DW, otherwise, don't bother.

That was my experience using the stiffi ul tip in the past. The weight difference was just under an ounce and they shot about the same. Nice but not really worth the cost to shave less than an ounce off for me.

Update

Okay, first thing's first, I promised a picture of the threads for these tips, because they're all much different from each other. The Stiffi is close to matching the factory Dye tip, but the DW is much different.

Also, some facts:

Dye 14" Tip - 8 1/16" Long 2.05 oz
DW 14" Tip - 8 1/4" Long 1.15 oz
Stiffi 14" Tip - 7 1/4" Long 1.20 oz

They all shoot about the same in accuracy and in sound signature but the Deadlywind is the longest and the lightest. It stands out, and the build quality is exceptional.

Hope this helps.

Interesting. I wonder why Deadlywind didn't make the back part of the threads the same as the ul tip.

I wanted to turn around as I was walking passed him and light up his back, but he's new to the sport and I don't want to deter new players from playing paintball. Should I see him again though, and he has nice new equipment, maybe even some skill and better judgement... he's getting lit up.

I went with a .692 UL to freak, it'll allow me to use up to .691 freak inserts, and a Deadlywinds UL tip. I couldn't be happier, and SSC did an amazing job.

Also, how nice were those rainbow shots @ 0:24? 3 on the lens!
