Pumpin' on overcrowded fields

As the winter months wind down and the temperature approaches 80 degrees here in sunny North Carolina, I find more and more players at the local Field. Which is great! More people to talk to, more people to play with.

The only problem is, The Field has not yet hired more refs to handle the increased volume of players. Which means the field only runs one game at a time and fields that are designed to accommodate 10 or so people are filled way passed capacity to sometimes 30 or more! Which is a problem for me. I try to avoid a straight up gun fight with my pump, because I am already lacking in the firepower department. My strategy mainly revolves around moving and surprising people, but when so many people are crammed on to a small space, moving around is not really an option.

How would you play if you were in my shoes? What advice can you give me? Is a gun fight with electros my only option in this case?

gun fight. imo that is what makes pumpers better. You can gunfight against anyone and win because you honed your skills. practice makes perfect. so since your playing open play its not a big deal to get shot out. so push you limits a little bit. try gun fighting and you will realize that you can take anyone.

More targets more kills!

Yes you will have to focus on your snap shooting to take out players at first. Then once the field thins out a bit you can go back to your sneaky ways.

You can always use your pump to your advantage by staying quiet and let the electros focuss on the electros. Let them forget where you are before you start to shoot. Pick your targets and try to take them out with as few shots as possible to keep your profile low.

I have had this issue lately at my local field, but the problem is that a few fields at my local place can not handle more than 12 on 12 at a time (woodsball)

Do you just live closer that way or you like that field better than the more local one?

i play at greensboro, because I like the staff, fields, and people there more. Ive been to charlotte a few times and every time I was not impressed with the people who frequent the field. Also I have a few buddies who live in the greensboro area so its easier for them to play with me if I travel the distance.

Thats cool. I have played up there before and it was a nice field. I like their hyper ball field. Maybe we could pump it up sometime.

I played several crowded games last weekend. I actually found it a little easier to move and surprise people because they'd often get distracted by other targets, forget about me and expose themselves. As long as you stick to one fight at a time and be good patient pumper you can still rack up the kills on a crowded field.

I'm getting flashbacks of 200 v. 200 at SC Village. Now that is crowded.

Anyway. With big games in general (pump or semi) the change is your not going to be able to maneuver like you normally do so it becomes a matter of attrition before the "real" game begins. It's actually less complicated with more people and although you get more targets, it can be a little boring.

We've had some giant games of 25 on 25 at our local field during the summer. They'll throw them on the speedball field. As a pumper, nobody pays attention to you and the targets are plentiful. I don't mind as long as I can get a bunker to myself. Then I'll pile up the eliminations.

Had this problem this weekend, I ran to a hut in the "village" field and found myself 2 roomates there. I leaned against a wall and watched them lane for a few pods. I would peek out and yell locations and movements I saw but once they began to slow down and the field had slimmed itself down to a reasonable amount, I began to play. It was a lot of fun helping people location wise, It also allowed me to get down the field much easier after knowing where everyone was for so long.

I wait in the back until the some players are eliminated before jumping in. That gives me some space to move around.

Sometimes I let them burn up their paint shooting at me, then when they give up, I quickly snap out and shoot them out.

I also like playing vs. an absolute ton of people then sneaking to the other side of field and start taking out people

I have so much fun when I play rec ball with my pump, and I can play all day on just a bag

I just stay back and assess what is going on, where we are weak, where their strong players are, how far each side got around the field, then make a move based off that. I sometimes bounce back and forth between the sides of the field waiting for people to get out or jump in the mix if we start to overpower one side.

When games get bigger come spring time I will/would get as far up the field as I can off the break and begin sneaking up from there. Once I get near the other team I begin gun fighting and picking them off one by one. I prefer to get in a spot with many targets and options and systematically moving up as the G's pile up.

Just shove the guys on your team out of the way. Tell them that you need your space.
