Help! PLEASE!
So recently ive been weighing my options between college and the miltary. Usually I sit down and make a Pros and Cons list, but I feel like as a someone who's obviously never been in the military, I cant truly list the Pros and Cons of the military. So I guess what I'm looking for is some imput from people who are currently enlisted, or who have served at some point in their life. I'm looking mostly at the Navy at the moment, as my father served as a Seal, but im looking more into the intel, or nuclear engineering aspects available. Any imput would be greaty appreciated!

If you're looking to join the Navy, try the Navy thread, they probably won't look in here. Or you can PM Barrel Roll as he could probably help the most.

I usually will encourage the military, but its not always for anybody. The Navy treated me well and was able to take college courses when I was active. The Navy always encourages taking classes. Not only that if you ever do decide to get out you will have the gi Bill to take care of your college.
Or you can go to college get your degree and then join the Navy and enter as an officer. There is also different programs to become an officer once enlisted.
I always tell everyone the Military will usually always treat you good if you pay attention, do as you're told, and not a **** bag.

Any chance you could go into more detail about becoming an officer while enlisted? I thought the only ways were a four year degree and enter as an officer, ROTC, or Annapolis. Its something I had seriously considered, but the recruiter that I talked to called ROTC guys 'Self-Righteous Pricks'... and that didn't sound too appealing to me.

Never mind, I used the google machine. So after 8 years of service and between E-6 and E-9 your eligible, but after 16 years you become ineligible? Or did i read into it the wrong way?

You can become an officer from enlisted as soon as you finish your bachelors degree. Considering the military pays for your schooling X amount of dollars each year, you can get your bachelors while serving and then apply for OCS, or whatever it's called. Best thing to do is decide whether you want to join or not, then when you get to your first duty station, ask your career advisor or even the First Sergeant.

some are and some aren't. A douchebag is going to be a douchebag regardless of whether they were prior enlisted, ROTC, or came out of the academy. I've seen really cool officers and not so cool ones. If you go that route just don't come out with a god complex thinking you know more than everyone else, don't be a careerist, and look after those below you.

I'm continually learning new **** here.. I dont want to clutter the individual threads for each branch, So if any of you could tell me what you do, and give a no bull **** explanation of what you do and how you like it, it'd make my life a million times easier than dealing with this D-bag of a recruiter I'm dealing with.

Making a career out if it has crossed my mind, but currently i've thought about re-upping once, and if I can make E-6, then I'd make a career out of it.

My dad always told me if I enlist, not to seem to eager or desperate, otherwise they'd have me signing papers to chip paint off of the 'Big-E'. Plus, i've always tried to apply some sort of thought and reason to life choices.
