Just saw LOTR: Return of the king

Awesome movie... Good action scenes... etc... I won't go into too much detail until most people have seen it, and do not want to post any spoilers just yet. Except for one thing: JESUS CHRIST the movie could have been stopped at 3 hours, the last 30 minutes just really pissed me off walking away from the movie with a bad taste. But with the extra 30 minutes it allowed me to build up one of the biggest pisses I have taken in a while...

Also Legolas wasn't as kick *** in this movie... Which sucked, cause Legolas owns all.

I also just got back. My one complaint is the exclusion of the scouring of the Shire. That should have been the ending. I won't go into more detail cause I don't want to spoil anything. Just go see it.

According to theonering.net the Extended Edition of ROTK will be 4+ hours, far longer than any of the other versions. Peter Jackson has over 2 hours of cut footage to re-insert and could easily make the EEROTK 4 1/2 to 5 hours long. Almost every scene with Frodo and Aaragon were cut by 5 minutes from the original script. Most of the Cirith Ungol and Minas Morgul scenes were cut along with the Houses of Healing and the love affair between Eowyn and Faramir. The Witch King was also cut heavily. PM me and I can give a full list of stuff that was cut.

Yeah it was tight, but they left a lot of **** out, but they do it to make more money when ROTK comes out and then ROTK Extended version.

Yea i agree with legolas not being kickass, they didnt really focus on legolas\gimli fighting.. becuz thats what the 1st 2 movies were for..

From: http://www.cnn.com/2003/SHOWBIZ/Movi....ap/index.html

AP: "Return of the King" is about 3 hours, 20 minutes long. Yet you cut a lot ...

JACKSON: We cut about an hour and 5 minutes. The books are so filled with detail and character, but we came to realize that even what we shot would be too long for what these theatrical cuts could sustain.

AP: How do you decide what goes?

JACKSON: The process of trimming a film down is brutal. You always end up cutting scenes that you absolutely love, cutting scenes that a few weeks earlier you said to yourself "I'm never going to cut that!" But ultimately, every scene has to justify its existence. Generally speaking, the shorter the film is the better, especially when you're hovering around that three-hour mark.

AP: Why do the extended edition DVDs, which add as much as 40 minutes back into the previous movies?

Jackson has been praised for his battle sequences, such as this one in "Return of the King."

JACKSON: For the fans who want to see more detail and are not so concerned with the momentum. ... We're basically putting scenes back in which we know on some level are destroying the momentum of the story, making it slow right down, which is why we took them out in the first place. But DVD seems to be a medium that allows you to do a certain amount of that. You have it in your living room, you can pause it, you can make a cup of tea, you can watch it over two nights. It's a much more forgiving environment to watch film in.

AP: A lot of people prefer the longer movies ...

JACKSON: I read reviews that say, "Oh, the DVD version is much better than the theatrical version," and I think, "Ugh, you can't win." The unknown factor is, what would happen if our DVD extended cut of "The Two Towers," which is three hours and 40 minutes, had been released as the theatrical version last year? (Laughs.) Everybody would then say, "It's miles too long."
So either way he cuts it, people still complain.

*SPOILERS!* Yeh, they come back to find the Shire run by Saruman and his wild men seen in TTT. Jackson decided against that because it was too anti-climatic and dragged the story on for too long.

I have better things to do than read the book... Like play Xbox...

As for Peter Jackson not wanting to drag the story on, thinking it was too anti-climatic.... pffft... he failed at that..... Everyone in the theatre was booing, and yelling **** as it kept dragging on and on and on and on... Then the biggest applause of the whole movie was when "The End" finally hit the screen and people filed out quickly.

i do the opposite...watching a movie after you read the book is almost always disapointing. thus, you watch the movie first, so when you read the book it gets better
